Finally an article that I can fully agree with on Clapton:

    http://blogs.guardian.co.uk/music/2007/12/eric_clapton_is_not_god.html

I always thought he was overrated and I never understood the "God" moniker...

P.S.: Probably the best comment :

"I think it's cos he was one of the first guitarists on the scene, and one of the first to plug a Les Paul into a Marshall. He's there before everyone else, but otherwise nothing special. When he switched to playing guff from a strat it was all over."

That article? You've got to be fucking kidding me. The author? His wife must have left him because she got boned by Clapton once and she just couldn't stand the marital dissapointment anymore...

How about we bash jimi hendrix next? Nah. Why bother. Clapton clearly might as well be shot on sight for never having done anything.

    Fuckin brits.

That's exactly the point, Clapton was not all that unique...

To the poster below me, I don't dislike Clapton, I just find him overrated...

I'd like to see a poll showing the age of people who like or dislike Clapton, and list their musical backgrounds (even if just a listener of music) as well.

Saying Clapton is god has nothing to do with being unique. Don't know where anyone got that from. Nobody is unique, not even *gasp* Jimi Hendrix at the time.

Besides, Clapton being god is because of the serious jamming he'd do in live shows -- not the MTV-era crap music videos kids today know him for. And it's also the explosion of new guitarists that he spawned as well. Those are the very few people that are legends, having a style or influence that creates many new kids to go pick up a guitar. Clapton just happened to be the first explosion. Think of him as the Beatles of guitarists. Heh, even today people criticize the Beatles, which is just flat-out dumbfounded.

maybe u should check out his other vids, when he was younger playing like a pro and could hardly hold the guitar. And was mentioned previously, acoustic is a lot harder than electric as what i was thinking. i mean, since we're talking about gods and all

Peter Green is the best whitey bluesboy.

Although my personal favorite has to be Alvin Lee. Here's my favorite blues song by him (although my favorite album of his/theirs is a rock one by Ten Years After called Cricklewood Green) with George Harrison on slide, stereotypically called "The Bluest Blues". And the thing about great guitarists isn't how fast you can play, which Alvin Lee is a little speed freak, but the way you can make a guitar sing even though some here complain about Clapton's so-called few tones, etc. Listen to these guitars sing, just close your eyes and watch yourself go in a trance:

Two of my other favorite rock songs by Ten Years After:

    "Working on the Road" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xNF2w_Fu1cQ

"I'd Love to Change the World" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hUokMbJC3P8

Les Paul the man who invented the Les Paul electric guitar.........

Les Paul is a unique blend of musician and inventor. His performing career started at the age of 13 and by the early 1950s he was the greatest jazz guitarist of his generation. The Les Paul Trio, which included his talented wife Mary Ford, produced such hits as "Tennessee Waltz," "Mockin' Bird Hill," "How High The Moon," and "Vaya Con Dios." He also won a 1977 Grammy with Chet Atkins for the album Chester and Lester.

As an inventor, Mr. Paul's breakthrough creation of the solid-body electric guitar paved the way for electric music made the sound of rock and roll possible. In 1953 while performing with Bing Crosby, he perfected the first muli-track recording machine, allowing separate lines of instrumental music and vocals to be blended together. His many recording innovations--including sound-on-sound, overdubbing, reverb effects, and multi-tracking--greatly accelerated the advancement of studio recording
