TAR files

    i have just downloaded a file that has a TAR extension.
    how can i extract it?
    OS winXP home.

    7zip took care of the file.
    it contain a shitload of pictures of some building construction.
    at first i couldn't figure out how to unzip it.
    i then right clicked on it and selected extract.
