Much as I am embarrassed to say this: I have a nasty case of this odd fungal infection which I either got from my new kitten (Milo) or from the gym where I work out at.

The bitch is, I've had it for a week and have been using Tinactin on it and it doesn't seem to be subsiding. Anybody have any better remedies out there, before I break down and go to a doctor?

where is it? My son had one on his scalp and all the anti-fungal crap wouldn't get rid of it. In fact he started looking like he had mange. Had to go to the Dr and get a $90 prescription of an oral med.

My brother had one on his forehead between his eyes. funny as hell

If its ringworm, you can crush a clove of garlic and use the paste on it. I warn you though, its not a comfortable experience. But it works. Cover it with something the air can get through (like sterile gauze). Garlic burns though, so you might want to use honey in the paste to reduce the discomfort.

One gigantic spot on my right-side rib cage. Two on my left calf. One on my right fore-arm. On penny sized on on the right side of my neck. The only ones that I "feel" (burning, itching) is on my rib cage and the neck. I thought it was eczema, so I started rubbing cortisone-moisturizer on it to no avail. Went to the pharm about a week ago and the pharmacist knew right away what it was and told me to put Tinactin on it. Which hasn't worked worth shit.

I just went out (since posting this topic) and bought some Blue Star, which is supposed to work very well.

I also read that a mixture of 1 part bleach and five parts water is pretty effective too.

I've been on vacation for the past ten days and I have to go back on Monday and I don't want to expose what will be obvious to EVERY mother I work with (women are about 70% of where I work). Manager Dan will become synonymous with RINGWORM. Hell no.

No lie: use Gynacort or one of the other antifungal creams for vaginal infections. That's all I had once when I was on a wilderness program for teens and it worked wonders. Apply 2x daily (min) -once at night before bed- and it should be gone in just a few days.

Anyway, I think Tinactin has miconazole whereas Gynacort has clotrimazole. Maybe one of the other foot creams with clotrimazole will do a similar job. Buy whatever is cheapest since its all the same chemical.

Edit: come to think of it, I'm probably wrong about the brand name of the product... I just remember it was for vaginal issues. And it may have taken longer than a few days... could have been more than a week. This was 1997.

You could also heat a hot poker and cauterize the region.

If you've ever had ringworm, you understand that burnt patches of skin will heal. It can seem like ringworm will never go away.

I had a rash once while stationed in Europe that created these morbidly oversized blisters. The itch was so bad that the only way I could get relief was to switch back and forth from extremely hot to extremely cold water. I didn't dare scratch for fear of infection. The doctor's had no idea what it was and the only treatment the found that worked was application of Silvadeen, the ointment they use on burn patients. Lucky me the military paid for the medications... I think that junk is expensive. I was also lucky it lasted no more than a week or so.

here is my left hand. notice the burned skin? I am 20 now...I got burned when I was 3 years old. It did not heal...it remained.

I asked once my mom when I was 5 "Why do people have their left hand with such a shape?...it is not the same as the right hand"

Why don't you want to go the doctor, and just take the proper prescription for it?
Sometimes fooling with all these remedies ppl suggest just make it worse.

I have to say - I had no idea what ringworm was. My knee-jerk answer was going to be "what the fuck did you DO to that kitten??"

that is one hell of an infestation. Just because you take of one doesn't mean another won't pop up somewhere else. I'd go get meds from a Dr. It will get them out of your system in one shot.

Everytime I get to gardening I get itty bitty itchy as hell blisters. I found out they were chiggers. They bore a hole in the skin and chew up tiny parts of the inner skin which cause the blister. They love wet grass, which is why they are in my flower garden. I just put clear nail polish over it and suffocate them.
I think I just realized I have chiggers corpses in my body.

    1) I have an out-of-pocket expense every time I visit which, if I can avoid, I do.
    2) It'll be about three days 'till they can see me (no earlier than Monday 13th)
    3) Ringworm is prety common-- it's not like it's something THAT serious. If I can fix it on my own, then HELL, I'll fix it on my own.

I'm sure you realize by now (after reading) that Ringworm is a fungal infection that one picks up off of places like pools, gyms, wrestling mats, domesticated animals (though, I don't know why), and public restrooms.

Nothing nefarious with the kitty... just a laser pointer and lots of spastic running about. Very funny shit.

    ???

The medical and dental is GREAT- my copay is $20 for visits and $50 for medcenter/ER visits. The prescription, however, coverage is horrific. My Lunesta costs me $80 out of pocket. When I worked for Costco (which has the greatest helth insurance in the biz), my out of pocket for prescriptions was $5.
