umm, no idea. Do people still role play things like the civil war with little solders? or the middle age battles? Thats where the game came from after all

Gygax invented Chainmail too, though it was a miniature wargame, rather than an RPG. Chainmail was based on an earlier medieval wargame called Seige of Bodenberg.
