If anyone could answer any of the following it would help me out a lot

    1. I'm just scratching the surface of Adolbe Photoshop, and I don't know how to set the threshold for darkness/brightness detection when importing an image from a scanner. ie Pencil turns out very faint, and I know other scanners see it fine.

    2. How to enable the front mounted USB connections on the comp. I'm sure it's in BIOS I just don't know where to enabe that panel. It's plugged into the mobo. It's a new computer/BIOs.

    3. The Mic seems to be heard throught the speakers, but doesn't record in the webcam program. I have a feeling it's related to the fact that some audio functions, like that of this prog called Read Please that makes the comp talk, and streaming internet lectures, both have no audio, where as music and movies play fine.

The scanning issue has to do with your scanning software, not Photoshop. You can still adjust the brightness/contrast in Photoshop later.

already addressed; the scanning SW should have its own brightness/contrast settings. If you are using Photoshop's TWAIN import features, then (IIRC, been a while) you should have similar controls available in the dialog box that comes up before the scan starts.
? They aren't recognised? are you sure that they are plugged into the motherboard? Who built your machine?
If it is a device issue (and not a physical connection issue), then the problem might be solved by going into the device manager, and looking for an item with a yellow warning bade on it. Maybe the device has been disabled by Windows for some reason.
Otherwise, you may want to try re-installing the motherboard drivers from the CD - maybe the front USB ports use a different USB hub that is missing drivers.
Sounds like there's a bit of a problem RE: the sound setup. Does the webcam have it's own microphone? If so, then it may disable the mic you are trying to use during records.
Are you just plugging your speakers into one of the audio ports on the back of the machine? Are there other unused audio ports back there?
