Black people have more ticketed moving violations than whites by a ratio of 12:1. That means, for every 12 black people that receive a ticket for a moving violation, only 1 white person does. Examples of moving violations are: speeding, which can be exceeding a limit or simply driving an unsafe speed running a stop sign or red traffic light failure to yield to another vehicle with the right-of-way failure to signal for turns or lane changes failing to drive within a single lane crossing over a center divider, median or gore driving on the shoulder where it is considered illegal under certain conditions failure to use a seat belt failure to stop for a pedestrian in a crosswalk failure to stop for a school bus when children are boarding or exiting failure to secure a load to a truck or lorry driving in a car pool lane illegally operating a telecommunications device while driving (in countries such as Australia and certain U.S. jurisdictions such as California) driving a vehicle outside the conditions of one's license Considering that the population is near equal, this leads me to believe - both from the data and my own observation - that black people have a more aggressive driving style in this area. Is this necessary true or could any other factors come into play that would account for the huge gap in moving violations between races? EDIT: I should also note that I don't think racial bias among police officers is to blame. The city police force here is 41% black, 56% white and 3% other.
Blacks have historically been mistreated by the police. This has tragically led to a distrust in police and a disdain for the law.
MZ3Boy84 Blacks and whites commit crimes at roughly the same rates, so how is it that blacks greatly outnumber whites in prison as a percentage of the population? I think you are seeing the evidence of the crime of "Driving while Black", it just gets written up as other crimes because that's not something you write down. The same thing is happening with Hispanics in the Southwest US.
