It doens't really surprise me that there are people against interracial marriage, but he shouldn't be a justice of the peace if he can't handle it.

My mom would have liked him since she was against interracial marriage. She made it clear that if I dated/married a black man she would have nothing to do with me. I don't know if it was an idle threat because I never dated one. She also used to say it is not fair to the kids, to be mixed. I still think that some of the older generation still think like that, especially the Europeans. I had friends that their parents thought the same way.

My cousin in Germany is going to marry a Muslim and her parents basically threw her out of the house, last time I heard.

I think if you want to believe it or not there are a lot of families out their that want their children to marry within their own race. Some don't want to admit it because it makes them sound racist but it's the truth.

I agree, the difference as you pointed out is he is a judge and is breaking the law.

I am sure a lot of people who aren't racist still would rather see their kids take the status quo route and marry within their race. They are looking at it from whatever is going to put their child through the least amount of stress.

I will admit that I didn't want my kids to be gay. Not because I wouldn't love them or treat them the same, but because it would make their life more difficult. But we wouldn't have a problem with either being gay.

Saying the kids will have problems in this case is hiding the fact that he doesn't want them to get married.

Who said anything about having kids. There is no requirement to have them. So he is just a racist, plain and simple.

Nearly half marriages are ending up in divorce . So it is a very big responsibility to get the wed lock . Parents usually worry about their children's future and in many cases they are right . People are free to marry but I can understand the worries of the parents and loved ones .

Honestly, I think it's funny it's so rediculous.

He's screwed now, is my bet. (The Judge.)

hes not a judge. Hes a justice of the peace. I tried to find the qualifications and the best was a yahoo answers, but the links to the actual documents are dead. So, if this is accurate heres whats required in Louisianna.

    JUSTICE OF THE PEACE
The candidate shall be of good moral character, a qualified elector, be a resident of the ward and district from which elected and able to read and write the English language correctly.

By the date of qualification in 2008, the candidate shall possess a high school diploma or its equivalent as determined by BESE.

    Beginning in 2008, a candidate shall not have attained age 70 by the date he qualifies;

It's the judge's discretion. They are just selfish crybabies.

I admire a judge who stands up for his own conscience, instead of 'just vollowing orders'

He said he WOULDN'T want them to get married, not that they COULDN'T. Also there were 10 gentlemen waiting outside in white robes and hoods, so maybe he was right...

What does being Muslim have to do with race? I was born and live in a Muslim country, most of the people are white. And as 'a race', we don't have black people as a population.

Interracial marriage is something else, spouses being from different religions is something else.

This disorientated idea of 'the other' is really bothering me.

Without "other" we would not have "our own", its a a genetic quality of every human.

Read my post draqon. I am not saying the idea of 'the other' is nonsense or bad. I am saying, disorientated image of the other is. Be bad or fascist education, media built up bullshit.
If a person doesn't know the difference between belonging to a culture created by people from the same race and another one created by people belonging the same religion, it's a deep rooted issue that should be pointed out.

    Genetic?
    Really?
    Which genes, specifically, control this?

If people are really secularised it's OK I guess. My sister is married to an American. I can't even imagine the guy as a foreigner. Not because he is my close relative. Because two families are really secular and also know that it's nobody's bussiness what they do with themselves. But if he married into a traditional Turkish family, he could surely be asked to get circumsized or even become a Muslim. As they are both atheists, no problems.
