Happiness or truth?

We all know the phrase "ignorance is bliss"...

But would you rather be happy or know the truth?
Is it possible to have both?
Does happiness come with knowing the truth?

It could be argued that everyone believes they know the truth anyway, regardless of if it is ACTUALLY true. So it may be a futile question...

Of course you can be happy when you know the truth about many things but then again you can be unhappy about knowing the truth at other times. It depends upon the situation at hand.

I'd rather be happy. Now that's the truth.

A lot of people seem to align to a religion, even though they admit that it is a source of comfort.
It is as if they are quite happy to follow something without questioning if it is true because it makes them happy.

I'd rather have the truth. In general it makes me happier.

I have a suspicion that what you have said here is true. But contrary to the impression my previous post has probably made, I believe that a person has to actively maintain self-delusion to believe an untruth after a certain amount of time. I believe this because there will be evidence all around them against the untruth, whether they like it or not. In a vacuum world, a person could choose happiness over truth. (I took this question the way someone takes a 'if you had six hours to live!...' kind of question.) But in the real world, you'd have to hurt yourself to keep believing a lie.

I prefer the red pill. Reality may be harsh, but at least you don't have to keep covering it up with more lies to believe them.

Not if you actually believe it to be true though.
Everyone believes they know the truth.

I want the truth . I will do just about anything to dig it out . The truth may not always be what you thought and can hurt like a bastard if you where holding on to it with much conviction . When you find a truth and it is not in line with popular belief then what do you do ? Not that I know the truth my self . I have suspicions though. It is a freaking night mare if the particular truths turn out to be true , but who cares it is what it is. I should take the rout of a freeloader and say screw everybody but Me and my family, but no I gots to be under the spell of that vampire Jesus mythological creature . So I care about everyone thanks to that dick wad

    Define ''truth'', and define ''happiness''

Really? Is there any confusion at all?

True, as opposed to false. Mountain are made of rock, the ocean is made of water etc.
Happiness, being happy, feeling good about yourself.

    No confusion.
Just wasn't sure of the point of the questions.
But yeah, I think it's better all round to accept that mountains are rocky.

That is not always true . Foot hills after a certain height will be called Mountains and they may just be dirt, sand and , lofty loom covered with wild grass, no rocks anywhere except deep underground

I'll take happiness. Truth and lies are the only thing I have to suffer for. Why take away the torments that lead to overcoming obstacles. Besides we know there are no absolute truths other than absolutes themselves. The instant we find truth our mind can still seek unhappy thoughts. Just put me in a blissful state of happiness while I discover the truth for myself.

Lies all smell of the same stench, putrid with boasts of laughter from their creator. Even more humorous if the creator believes it to be "truth".

Happiness is fleeting. Truth is eternal.

I'll take truth for $500, Alex.

The truth often makes me unhappy. Lies screw with my sense of reality, which I find even more unpleasant.

Happiness is to be found in little pleasures and contentments, the taste of chocolate or sweetened coffee, the kiss of your lover, the affection of a dog, spring wildflowers in the grass, a hot shower on pleasantly-sore muscles, a soft bed when you're tired, the giggle of an amused child.

The truth is a domain of cold.

that's not necessarily true. it depends on what that truth is.

a lie can be the domain of cold too.

How do you know this? Do you know the "truth"? The truth may be that we are here to enjoy the little pleasures.

I know that I love a cup of fresh ground coffee...
