Yes, we still have a good game show in the United States. Well, it's not quite what most Americans think of as a game show, but NPR's Wait Wait ... Don't Tell Me is the kind of radio most people don't realize still exists. It's a celebrity-laden quiz show, featuring telephone contestants, special appearances, and musical performances.

For instance, the September 8, 2007 broadcast:

    Guests:

    • P. J. O'Rourke
    • Amy Dickinson
    • Mo Rocca

    Segments:

    • "Who's Carl This Time?"
    • "Panel (Round One)"
    • "Bluff the Listener"
    • "Not My Job" (featuring Gov. Mike Huckabee)
    • "Panel (Round Two)"
    • "Listener Limerick Challenge"
    • "Lightening Fill in the Blank"
    • "Prediction"

This may be one of the last bastions of good, ol' fashioned American humor. And I will say it's an excellent performance for Huckabee.

So check out the show; it might be my favorite radio show, and it's a reminder of why public radio needs to stick around. You can listen to the entire show, or pick a segment:

C'mon ... just try it. Where else do you get to hear about sacrificed goats, kissing as an evolutionary tool, and the Governor of Idaho's ass? It's great fun for the whole family.
