Yes, we still have a good game show in the United States. Well, it's not quite what most Americans think of as a game show, but NPR's Wait Wait ... Don't Tell Me is the kind of radio most people don't realize still exists. It's a celebrity-laden quiz show, featuring telephone contestants, special appearances, and musical performances. For instance, the September 8, 2007 broadcast: Guests: • P. J. O'Rourke • Amy Dickinson • Mo Rocca Segments: • "Who's Carl This Time?" • "Panel (Round One)" • "Bluff the Listener" • "Not My Job" (featuring Gov. Mike Huckabee) • "Panel (Round Two)" • "Listener Limerick Challenge" • "Lightening Fill in the Blank" • "Prediction" This may be one of the last bastions of good, ol' fashioned American humor. And I will say it's an excellent performance for Huckabee. So check out the show; it might be my favorite radio show, and it's a reminder of why public radio needs to stick around.
