This was forwarded to me in an email.

    FreeRice

Basically, it is a word game. It looks as if the people have sold advertising at the bottom of the screen, with the revenues donated to some world hunger relief program. The site looks legit (but, they always do!), and it might be a good SciForums Community project to go and play this goofy game for ten minutes or so.

Just imagine if we all spent two or three minutes improving our vocab skills for the sake of hungry people somewhere---I'm not the bleedig heart type, but if you're wasting time on the internet ANYway, you might as well put that wasted time to some good use.

If anyone can vouch for the valididty of this site, I would apreciate it as well.

Solution to world hunger: Let the excess population starve to death. Then the supply matches the demand. No more hunger.

No, because there is enough food in Scotland.

I would have thought "local" was implicit.

Is this all a little too cerebral for you sweety pie?

no need to get hissy here...

You encouraging mass selected human elimination, a concept of Nazim to solve world's issues...is not cerebral to say the least?

    Says you.

Look, it's simple. A given area can provide a certain amount of food, which can sustain a certain number of human beings.

If the human population exceeds the food supply, people will starve.

In an otherwise prosperous area that got hit with a sudden drought, fine, help them out until they get back on their feet. Otherwise, refer to start of post.

I couldn't get past level 31 or 32. I kept getting stuck in all those weird western european loan words.

    [edit]
    41 or 42. Highest 43 at 1300 grains.
I get past the weird words, into the latin, which is easy, but a single mistake puts me back in the loan words, and then it's a downhill slide.
