So yesterday NPR announced that public schools in Florida will begin teaching evolution, but only as theory, not as fact. I laughed so hard when I heard this. The thing is, it is a theory. I find it funny that creationists feel like they won a small victory here with this technicality. Does this distinction in what it will be taught as really bother any of you fellow evolutionists? As a Florida resident, I think it's about time. Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
So do you feel it's ok if they teach it as theory instead of fact (which evolutionists don't claim it is)? Just curious if those of your beliefs really do feel this is a compromise.
Yeah, because we were all created by a supernatural deity that no one has ever seen. Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
Correct, we didn't descend from apes. Apes and humans had a common ancestor. See Sandy, you know a few things about evolution after all. Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
Apes take better care of their environment that humans do. That being said which is the one who is better off on this planet? If humans destroy this planet then perhaps everything else will be destroyed as well. I guess that's the way religion wants it for they say we are the superior type that are supposedly in control yet we cause extinction of thousands of species.
Regardless of the few people who look at humans as a cancer in need of extinguishing, there are many legitimate people in the science community that are not very willing to admit evolution is a theory, also. It goes like this. "you're not educated enough to know the difference" "you're a religious fanatic so you're mentally ill" Then "well, so what if we don't have the answers, neither do you." We need to forget the first two and keep the third.
And now all we need is the classic question. If we are descended from apes, then why is it that there are still apes? The answer is simple. But first let me ask another question. why is it that if you cross a horse with a donkey you get a mule? It is because they have the same ancestor, but have been living apart for so long that they have evolved in diffrent directions. Just like the ape and the human. So today you will be able to find both horses and donkeys, and apes and humans. But who knows in about 1000 years the donkey and the ape might be extinct just like the sabletooth tiger.
So what did they apes ancestors breed with to create a being that surpasses their intelligence 10 times. And do we have to worry about any other animals developing Super-animal brains? I already wonder about house cats. Smug little...
What i would like to know is if anyone can explain the evolution of echolocation and for what purpose. Bats, whales and dolphins. Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image! Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
Do you find it the least bit intriguing that dolphins and whales use this method and then BATS. How does that fit into evolution, thats all. Should be simple. http://neurophilosophy.wordpress.com/2006/09/18/how-sperm-whales-use-echolocation-to-catch-prey/ ....dump de dump dump......
I don't understand your query? Do you have trouble with the concept of echolocation, or can't you understand why whales and dolphins (believed to be descendents of land mammals) can use a similar method of detecting their surroundings as land based animals? Humans can also percieve their environment using sound. Of course it's taken bats many millions of years to develop a system such as they have today, whereby they can see with sound, just as you or I can see using light.
We did not descend from apes, so you are correct on that matter. However, apes and humans came from a common ancestor; referr to it as Australopithecus afarensis
I was created by Jesus Christ in His likeness. If you want to believe you're descended from apes, that's your choice. It's not too far-fetched an idea for many people around here. Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
