When Arafat was the leader of the Palestinians, it seemed to me that he did not want to be the ruler of an independent Palestinian state.

If he had an independent Palestinian state to run, he would be responsible for building/maintaining schools, roads, infastructure. He would have to run a police force as well as civil & criminal justice systems. He would be responible for collecting taxes and accountable for how the money was spent. In short, he would have to run a country.

As long as there was no Palestinians state, Arafat had money from the other Arab countries to support his fight with the Jews. He had power, prestige, and lots of money with little accountability.

I wonder if the current Palestinian leaders (especially Hamas) really want to have their own independent Palestinian state. Might they have goals similar to those of Arafat?

Follow the money as they say, what do their bank accounts show.

Arafats were just as fat and plump as he was.

He skimmed millions from the Aid sent to Palestine, at the expence of the People.

Yes, so they can get free aid from everyone else in the world just like many countries do now.

They already get free aid, so why would they want to become a country?

They would then get on the IMF list for financial aid as well as other various aid packages that only countries would recieve.

Does it matter what the Palestinians want? Even their elected government is not recognised.

    Which government? and which Palestinians?

Fatah has recognition as the Government of the Palestinians.

To me is sounds exactly like the situation of the American Civil War, Gaza succeeded by election just like the states of south did, and no one gave them recognition, because they went their own way and didn't renounce slavery.

Hamas is in rebelion to the recognized governemnt of Palestin, Hamas went their own way, and haven't renounced their goal of the violent destruction or just plain destruction of Israel.

Fatah is the recognized Government of the Palestinian People, not Hamas, exactly like the Federal Government of the North was the recognized Government of the American People.

The recognised government is usually the elected one. Hamas won the Palestinian elections, which Fatah lost because of corruption. The Palestinians are not stupid. But Americans and Israelis don't really believe in democracy.

And thus the Palestinian people are complicit in terrorism. They are getting exactly what they asked for, I have little sympathy for them, except the innocent children.

An elected government is not considered a terrorist group. If it were, then the one that is militarily occupying other people against international law would top the list.

You're delusional. A terrorist group can not be considered a legitimate government. Terrorism is also against international law. Hamas is the functioning government, but they should all be killed as soon as possible.
