Sure there can. Congress can create and independent prosecutor, ala Ken Starr, pretty much whenever it wants. So why haven't the Democrats done this, if they are so outraged at what has happened?
The Dems don't have the votes in Congress, even if they could all get together on something like that. Which, for some reason, they can't. Especially not in an election year. This President has discovered the veto, now that bipartisanship is the order of the day.

But the simple fact is they haven't. And you're right. It largely is an issue of election-year politics, but that's a sad commentary, don't you think? I mean, these are the people who crusade on their moral outrage and quality of character, right? And they won't do what you and others think is right because they are more concerned about the prizes of the ballot box?
Let's stop tying the hands of our own people. Think of how it would be if the table was turned (as many times is has been) , and let them do their job without constantly being scrutinized . When the day comes that our own people can't do dick without knowing they will be crucified for it , then everyone will wish for it but it will be too late.

Not at all. Spineless, the leadership of that party. But the worst you can say of them is that they have failed to symbolically take the Republican administration to task, and risk their careers in that symbolic process. The Republicans, on the other hand, have far worse to account for. A mere hint of cooperation, from merely a few of them, with the new wave Dems, and everything is different - not just symbolic posing and noise, but real and veto-proof enforcement of the rule of law, would be possible.
