I took a couple of quizzes to determine if I have aspergers syndrome assuming I would test low. Only to find out that, according to these quizzes I have a high probability of being an Aspie. I wonder just how common aspergers actually is.

This is the result of my quiz taken at rdos.net

Maybe you are. The parents of children with autism are often autistic or borderline themselves. I remember we posted this test some time ago here and many people took it. It basically quantifies the DSM in a crude way. I found some of the questions misleading. Do I like to plan my activities? No, which sounds weird for an autistic person who likes things the same, but planning often requires human interaction and doing things that are not routine, which I also don't like.

Sometimes none of the options fit so I left the question mark selected. The sexual questions were the most problematic and that probably skewed the results. For example, I practice asexuality for the most part now, though I used to be obsessed with getting it up until I decided that I was wasting precious time and energy on it.

It's possible. I just took the test and came out as neurotypical:

I always plan. And as long as my plans depend only on my own cooperation they tend to work out. but the minute the success of my plans depends on the compliance of other people they are doomed to fail. So I tend to anticipate the usual amount of compliance and account for it in my plans. Otherwise I spend most of my time pissed off.

I've taken this 5 or 6 times over the past decade, and I always get this same cardioid pattern:

Personally, I maintain that it's a result of a refractory, and totally out of control, seizure disorder; having lived outdoors for many years; and some unspecified sensory "issues." But who knows?

Well, I'm just a mess. Part of my issue is that some of these questions were difficult to figure out the honest answer for. For example, rocking back and forth. I just don't do it. At all. But as a kid... I always did. I lived with my grandparents and then went straight into the Army. Between my grandparents and the military, a lot of behavior traits were kinda beaten out of me. I wasn't sure if I should answer based on current behaviors or natural ones that are long forgotten and covered in dust.
Another problem was social groups. I was very awkward in social groups and the like most all of my life. But I paid attention and made the best of it and still managed to find my way into groups, not out of desire to belong as much as it seemed to be what I was supposed to do. I had to learn, over time, how to overcome the awkward and natural things and how to respond and act as expected in social settings. I still always feel uncomfortable in social settings and do not enjoy them. I'm the sort that would be seen at the back of the room by myself at a party given the choice. However, because of the demands of life, I learned how to mingle and interact and get positive responses from people and so, while I may want to be anywhere other than at that party- I'd have the folks there totally fooled into thinking I was sociable and enjoying the night. Granted, afterward, I needed to de-stress and recover...
Hunting is another unusual one. By nature, I dislike the thought of killing anything. I'm the sort that gets along with animals better than people, by far.
Yet, I almost seem to have an alternate persona when killing is necessary- a cold being within me that takes over and while that persona does not enjoy killing (Within I may flinch at the horror of deep wounds and blood, but on the outside, face is like stone and there is neither hesitation nor flinching) , it grimly does what must be done and then leaves it to me to mourn afterward. Something which I've too often had to go off alone later and cope with. And probably will some time tonight for having reflected on it now.
I've been hunting since I was very young and then- the Army. I guess somewhere along the way I got used to that division- to me, it is normal and I will always carry that mourning for those I've killed. And I'll always be ready to kill again if needs be.

Your Aspie score: 113 of 200
    Your neurotypical (non-autistic) score: 94 of 200
You seem to have both Aspie and neurotypical traits

Hmm. The detailed accounting for my "aspie" hunting and perception score s kinda lend some credence to my own reckoning:

    Aspie hunting:

This group contains passive hunting traits. One part of the traits is related to preferred habitats (e.g. slowly flowing water; caves; woods; liking mist or fog). Another part seems to be close-contact hunting traits (e.g. jumping over things; climbing; chasing animals; biting; enjoying spinning in circles; strong grip; strong hands; physical endurance; enjoying rodeo riders). Some other traits are related to sneaking (e.g. sneaking through the woods; sneaking up on animals; walking on toes) and general hunting tactics (e.g. mimicking animal sounds; digging; throwing small things; building traps; fascination for fire; sniffing)

    Aspie perception:

This group contains perception-related Aspie traits. These traits commonly become disabilities, but their core seems to be more sensitive senses (e.g. touch; sound; tactile; smell; taste; light and glare; humidity; changes in air pressure; wind; heat; electromagnetic fields) or less sensitive senses (e.g. pain). Related to this are instinctual reactions to sensory information (e.g. being distracted by sounds; being afraid of motor-bikes; being afraid of floods or fast running streams; disliking stomping). Other traits are difficulty filtering out speech from background noise and using peripheral vision.

    Totally.

For the hell of it, I'm gonna go through what you describe and relate:
This is me; I enjoy being out alone in the wilderness. Spent a great deal of time in the Sierra Nevada mountains as a kid and through my teens.
You haven't seen the night sky until you have seen it at high altitude. I enjoy forests (Damn near chose forestry as a career) and mountains. Don't enjoy deserts, so much.
I enjoy climbing. I enjoy playing with animals, play chase- But in hunting for survival, necessity, I tend to not chase an animal. I prefer the one that squares off with me. Prey is only prey if granted the right to defend itself. Animals that flee have a high amount of adrenaline in the blood which gives a bitter taste to meat. People that eat prepackaged Wal-Mart steaks have no idea what real meat tastes like.
    Yes.
Under hard labor, yes. Running, jogging, no.
    Yes.
No. I like to be silent and unheard walking through the woods but don't really have a desire to sneak up on anything. Just prefer to go unseen.
Rarely, more out of interest in the animal than in deceiving it.
Digging is for Moles. I live in a tree, not in a hole.
I have zero desire for traps, whatsoever. Traps are cowards hunting. Prey must be granted the right to defend and kill you.
Point: I have never hunted an animal with a firearm.
I have carried a firearm (Browning Snake Charmer; 30-06 rifle) for defense of certain animals; e.g. rattlesnakes and Mountain Lions but have never used them to shoot at wildlife. During my life, I've only ever used firearms on people.
Yes, but not to pyro proportions.
Scent is a great tracking method (Usually avoidance) and rapport method when dealing with wildlife. I often sniff at animals, even if I don't smell anything. This is more to 'communicate' with the animal than it is to actually catch its scent.
That I know of, I'm not very sensitive to any of these. I have very good vision. Normal sense of smell and hearing.
I tend to ignore pain. I feel it, I just ignore it. Many tell me I have a high tolerance for pain. I do not know if I do or not.
I cannot think of many sounds that would inspire fear that most anyone wouldn't also feel fear for. However, I find most sounds annoying. The feeling would be annoyance to anger, not fear.
I use peripheral vision a lot. I have difficulty with following more than one conversation. However, out in the woods, I'm very good at listening to my surroundings. I've always assumed the difference was in that I was listening out of intent out of doors, but don't give much a damn about what most people have to say.

Who is this Paul Cooijmans guy? I can't find anything in reference to his credentials. I have only found that he designs IQ tests. He may be smart but is he a psychologist at all or just a self proclaimed expert on Aspergers? The link you gave seemed to read as a blog of speculative ideas of what Aspergers and Autism are or ought to be considered. But I don't know if his claims can be taken seriously without knowing his background and why I should believe his claims are any more substantial than those of the semiconscious drunken bum in the back seat of a public transit bus.

thanks, if there is any truth to that, he is no more qualified to be making claims about what aspergers is or should be considered than I do. for I also have "Related fields of his interest are Asperger Syndrome, genius, personality and early memories.[2]"

    Interest does not equal expertise.

Asguard's chart is quite interesting and would logically explain why sometimes our exchanges mesh and other times are as 'oil on water'.

    calling a mulligan

I think I wanna take the test over again, about 5 times. I have never had anyone accuse me of being an aspie, not that I find it to be a bad thing. I have even somewhat envied them at times. But to me, it seems I notice aspie traits in people who are scoring lower than me on this test. Like when a gentle jibe goes over one's head. Someone with a lower score seems to miss the joke but I get it. Am I just confused on what aspergers actually is? Or am I so aspie that I have come full circle into looking NT to others. Or am I just surrounded by Aspies and tend to think that NT looks strange? Or am I so abdnormal that people are afraid to mention it to me?
