Absolutely. However, as stated, it is quite dominant. I mean, you see someone in a movie not even remotely Punjabi later on in the movie [or a song] suddenly using a bunch of Punjabi terms and such.

I personally am a huge fan of a world/new age type fusion music. Something similar to the likes of Ikarus' Praying to Different Gods
