a couple of my favs

No bastard ever won a war by dying for his country. He won it by making the other poor dumb bastard die for his country.

~Gen George S. Patton

Don't talk to me about naval tradition. It's nothing but rum, sodomy and the lash.

~Sir Winston Churchill

Let your religion be less of a theory and more of a love affair.

~Gilbert K. Chesterton

~Sir Winston Churchill

If you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything

Some really good quotes here!

Okay, a few of mine

"Only the insane have the strength enough to prosper. Only those who prosper may truly judge what is sane"

"If you are strong, feign weakness. If weak pretend strength. Whatever your position conceal it from the enemy and he will waste his armies fighting his own phantoms"

"Though my guards may sleep and ships may rest at anchor, our foes know full well that big guns never tire"

"Only a madman knows no fear. A warrior knows what fear is, he feels it in his stomach, he understands fear better than any other mortal can. What makes us strong is that we have conquered fear, overcome it not once but many times, over and over again, until the process has become instinctive. But your fear will never completely leave you. Learn to live with that fear. Learn to master your fear."

"Between the stars every voyage into the nothing is a confrontation with horror and with man's innermost fear."

"We dig up the past to bury it one last time"

"If we aren't supposed to eat animals, why are they made of meat?"

I should stop here, so I will

then theres "Do unto others as you would have other do unto you"
think about it

I SO disagree, and I wouldn't have said anything, but since you said "think about it" well, you practically held a gun to my head. :D

It should be "do unto others as they wish have done to them" simply because we all have different preferences.

Fave quote ever?

Henry Stalin - "The death of one is a tragedy, the death of a million is just a statistic."

"We shall not cease from exploration, and the end of all our exploring will be to arrive where we started and know the place for the first time."

--T.S. Eliot

Nietzsche has all the best quotes, but I'll attempt to provide a range.

"A strong belief proves only it's own strength - not the truth of what is believed."
(Nietzsche)

"People who think their daily lives too empty and monotonous easily become religous: this is understandable and forgivable; however, they have no right to demand religosity from those whose daily life does not pass in emptiness and monotony."
(Nietzsche again)

"Philosophers have only interpreted the world, in various ways; the point is to change it."
(Marx)

"Do not ask me who I am, and do not ask me to remain the same."
(Foucault)

"There are 10 types of people in this world; those who understand binary and those who don't."
(Unknown)

Every Matthew Good/Band song ever is quotable, also.

How could I forget Oscar Wilde?

"One should either be a work of art or wear a work of art."
(Wilde)

"A true gentlemen will never insult someone unintentionally."
(I'm unsure of the wording of that one, but the meaning is there.)(Wilde)

As to "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.", I infitely perefer Le Fay's inversion;

"Do unto others as they do unto you."

"The reason that i have to love thee, doth much excuse thy appertaining rage" - Shakespeare

"My soul do not seek eternal life. But exhaust the realm of the possible" - Pindar
