Jon Stewart offered an interesting analysis of some parallels between Mangione and the Cybertruck guy and the NOLA attack guy. What's unique here is that these guys were relatively "normal"; that is, they weren't radicalized or adherents of wack conspiratorial culture--for the most part. Their "manifestos"--to the extent that we can even regard them as such--were pretty lame. Mangione even stated that he did not necessarily consider himself the best person to make whatever argument he was making. Conversely, Kaczynski was the man with respect to manifestos.I appreciate this analysis. Serial killers may be a different breed, in that they continue to fly just enough under the radar, to continue on doing what they do. I'm not sure if Luigi had planned to take down more execs, but I hadn't considered that he could have been so confident, that it overshadowed logic (in the moment).
Edit: Incidentally, if you make it to the end of the clip, you'll see this image:
And that was, in fact, the original "Hang in there, baby" poster. That cat is jacked and he will fuck you up. The transition to the soft, fuzzy kitty was swift and went largely undetected. This is not insignificant and was a harbinger of things to come--see post #98. That PiL's Metal Box will eventually lead to Hot Topic is inevitable, under capitalism; but it's also not necessarily the only possible trajectory. I'm fundamentally optimistic.
