Geez, Louise - The Boys in Blue and Gold didn't waste any time getting down to business with Uncle Sam's purtiest little Putin pasters, blasting away at a "military facility in the Bryansk region" with a half-dozen U.S. supplied missiles. Team Crazy Ivan denies any damage done, of course - and has promised nuclear retaliation should they so happen to be inclined, since this evidently says to a "certain someone's" sensibilities that the West is "all in" and effectively at war with Russia.

Will rockets remorselessly rain down on Russia ?

Will Putin pop the "Red Pill" ?

Ukraine hits Russia with US ATACMS missiles for first time on war's 1,000th day

KYIV, Nov 19 (Reuters) - Ukraine used U.S. ATACMS missiles to strike Russian territory on Tuesday, taking advantage of newly granted permission from the outgoing administration of U.S. President Joe Biden on the war's 1,000th day.
Russia said its forces shot down five of six missiles fired at a military facility in the Bryansk region. Debris of one hit the facility, starting a fire that was swiftly put out and caused no casualties or damage, it said.

Ukraine said it struck a Russian arms depot about 110 km (70 miles) inside Russia, an attack that caused secondary explosions. Ukraine's military did not publicly specify the weapons used, but a Ukrainian government source and a U.S. official confirmed it had used ATACMS.
A U.S. official said Russia intercepted two of eight missiles and that the strike was at an ammunition supply point.
Biden gave approval this week for Ukraine to use ATACMS, the longest-range missiles Washington has supplied, for such attacks inside Russia. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said the use of ATACMS was a clear signal the West wanted to escalate the conflict.

It's just the Medea effect at work, or a perverse kind of parental revenge directed at vile voters or the Orange or whoever slash whatever. Daddy Biden would rather have the world severely harmed or destroyed than fall under the guidance of Trump again. ;)

Sleepy Joe seems so zombified at this point it wouldn't surprise me if somebody just put the appropriate piece of paper in front of him and he just scribbled his name on it without so much as knowing what he was signing.

Ukraine fires UK-made Storm Shadow missiles into Russia for first time, say reports

Ukraine launched the British-French-made Storm Shadow missiles at targets inside Russia for the first time on Wednesday, according to a Russian military blog and Reuters, a day after Ukraine fired US-made ATACMS missiles into Russia.

Ukraine’s use of the UK-supplied missiles to hit Russian territory was confirmed to Reuters by an official on condition of anonymity. British media also reported the use of the cruise missile on Wednesday, citing sources...

...A Russian military blogger on Wednesday posted photos on Telegram of a Storm Shadow missile fragment, claiming that up to 12 of the missiles were fired on Russia’s Kursk region.

According to the Russian blog, the fragment was photographed in the Russian village of Marino, which is about 35 miles from the Ukrainian border. The fragment has engravings that say “Storm Shadow.”

The fragments in the photo were confirmed to be from a Storm Shadow missile by weapons expert Trevor Ball, a former senior explosive ordnance technician for the US Army, who reviewed the image for CNN. However, CNN was unable to verify that the Telegram image was taken on Wednesday.

A separate video posted on Telegram, which was verified and geolocated by CNN, shows explosions audible from the Russian village of Marino on Wednesday. A weapons expert who reviewed the video for CNN said there are no indications the explosions are from a different type of munition, but it’s not possible to definitively say they are from Storm Shadow missiles.

Here we go with the folksy, down-home anecdotes. Have to reduce the topic to something comfortable and mundane. But no use of “ya”, as yet. Though there is a “gotta”, which is in much the same spirit. :biggrin:

A sudden escalation like this is worrying.

Wait for Trump and accept that the Ukrainian lines will not crumble until then?

How he acts now may be a window into what he expects from a Trump "administration"

Personally I expect a capitulation but hope to be wrong of course.

It seems as though Putin can't afford any outcome that doesn't allow him to claim victory. Realities on the battlefield - half a million plus casualties, catastrophic loss of equipment - might force him to negotiate, but the alleged starting point for talks is that Russia keeps all territory it currently occupies, which is evidently anathema to the Ukrainian government. However, I've also read that there's growing sentiment among Ukrainians that even a settlement which cedes territory to Russia is preferable to the ongoing annihilation of their nation.
We shall see...

Putin says Russia attacked Ukraine with a new missile that he claims the West can’t stop
The Kremlin fired a new intermediate-range ballistic missile at Ukraine on Thursday in response to Kyiv’s use this week of American and British missiles capable of striking deeper into Russia, President Vladimir Putin said.

In a televised address to the country, the Russian president warned that U.S. air defense systems would be powerless to stop the new missile, which he said flies at ten times the speed of sound and which he called the Oreshnik — Russian for hazelnut tree. He also said it could be used to attack any Ukrainian ally whose missiles are used to attack Russia.

“We believe that we have the right to use our weapons against military facilities of the countries that allow to use their weapons against our facilities,” Putin said in his first comments since President Joe Biden gave Ukraine the green light this month to use U.S. ATACMS missiles to strike at limited targets inside Russia.

Initial reports claimed that the attack was carried out with an ICBM. I thought to myself Here we go, sports fans - the main event is ON !
Further analysis has evidently yielded the following info:
Pentagon deputy press secretary Sabrina Singh confirmed that Russia’s missile was a new, experimental type of intermediate range missile based on it’s RS-26 Rubezh intercontinental ballistic missile.
