It's a perception that doesn't match reality.
UK knife deaths is surprisingly low. It is more widely reported these days because, as mentioned, we have a free press. Per 100k population, knife deaths run at about 0.08 per year, according to this website (using 2019 estimated data).
Malaysia, on the other hand, runs at 0.47, slightly better than Australia at 0.48. Canada is 0.49, USA is 0.60.
By comparison, South Africa and Lesotho both come in at a whopping 16+ per 100k. Russia is a paltry 4.32.

So, at least per this website, knife deaths in the UK are remarkably low - one of the lowest in the world. Far lower than one would otherwise imagine.

Surprised me, to be honest. I know we've had a spate of reported knife crime in the UK in recent years, so maybe 2019 (the year of the stats above) are not representative, but I was very much expecting the figure to be much higher.
I do know that in Europe as a whole, knife deaths are a far higher proportion of homicides than in the US, but that's to be expected given the gun control we have in Europe, and the vast number of gun deaths in the US.
 
Malaysia's press also never cover up murder cases.
But we have less rampant stabbing.
 
Usually murder is for money or sexual affairs, not killing stranger for nothing.
 
We do have many rape cases, almost every day.
But the most crime is burglary and snatch thief.
