Why KFC sells Pepsi and not Coca Cola?

Pepsi likely just struck a better deal with KFC than Coke did. There may be other reasons: KFC started in the Southern US in the 50's, and Pepsi just might have been more popular there at that time.
And yes, I can taste the difference, as can many people. Back in the 80's, coke actually changed its recipe to taste more like Pepsi, introducing "New Coke". It back-fired, as Coke drinkers drank Coke because it didn't taste like Pepsi, and Pepsi drinkers weren't going to switch to drinking Coke. Coke went back to the original version ( though for a while you could buy either Coke(New coke) or Classic Coke (original coke).

PepsiCo once owned the KFC chain. They just held on to the rights with respect to beverage. The fountain dispensing equipment for soft drinks is expensive, so it's not uncommon for fast-food outlets to have a contract with one supplier who pays for the costs of installation and maintenance in return for the exclusivity.

If CocaCola went back to their origins and produced a cocaine cola, I might actually go out and buy one.

Only Coke contains cocaine. That's why it's illegal in Georgia and Israel. Pepsi contains pepcid, which is an antacid. They don't cause diabetes type II, but diabetes causes Pepsi.
The original Coke did contain cocaine but the recipe was changed decades ago. Both are made from high fructose corn syrup which can skyrocket your body's blood sugar levels. I usually avoid high sugar drinks for this reason. Curiously cinnamon seems to mitigate the effect on blood sugar but they do not make a cinnamon flavor so I have tea instead.
Around 1986 or 1987, I was doing cleaning at the local Post Office. One of our crew had an extra contract to fill the 4 or 5 drink machines in the building and at some point, that contract went to an indigenous fellow. After a week or so, there were complaints about an indigenous man having access to the machines, (even though he had no access to the cash boxes). Imagine the hue and cry there would be if anybody had the gall to make such complaints today? Anyway, our boss asked me if I would go along with him - apparently a white babysitter would make it all okay. I got no extra pay for it but he was a good guy to work with and it was a nice break from our regular work. Well, we sold about 80% Classic Coke, almost no new Coke and a fair bit of Pepsi, as well as root beer, ginger ale, orange, grape, etc. Somebody once remarked to me that those machines were probably the only ones where you could get Coke and Pepsi in the same machine.
