Agreed, Mazulu and Robbobity1 were clearly people who needed to be permanently banned from the start
The only reason there is any question is because this is an "unusual" forum to begin with. It seems to be positioned as a "science" forum but almost none of the posts are really about science.
Most/many of the posters are into pseudoscience or (as Balerion would put it ) are just "cranks"
So, in that light perhaps no one should ever be banned
I would be interested to hear what the motivation of the forum founders were? Was it to discuss science or to attract "cranks"?

I post at least one science article , I don't see many comment from you. At the same time how many posts have you on science have you posted ?

I would like to say that you are wrong,
but looking at the new posts page there isn't a single real science topic being discussed.
Maybe if the site renames itself "crankforum" we will attract some scientists.

I've heard James R discuss the idea of Sciforums being more accessible than other science forums as a goal, but I don't think that was with people like Robbity or Mazulu in mind. Then again, it's not as if either were stupid, it's just that they were both disturbed. I think if they wanted to clean up their acts, they could find a place here.

This site was founded by a guy named Dave, I think he was a student from Vancouver, BC studying at the local university. He definitely wanted a science site and it did start out that way, but of course, the cranks soon began posting their crap and after a while, he gave up and sold the site.
To give a glimpse into the moderators minds... we are trying to make a return to a more science and study oriented site, but without having to mass-ban everyone who talks about other stuff... it's not as cut and dry as one would think

I'm sure it's not easy
On the other hand the purely science boards seem to find a way to do it. The only one that I'm a member of is an astronomy forum. There are no cranks there. If someone posts something in "astro-physics" that isn't actually science but is just someone's personal theory it gets closed.Also, for a science forum, it's unusual to have so many sub-forums that aren't science related. I think that's why it's hard to moderate.
After it was completely rearranged and redefined once the cranks, crackpots and kooks took over.
He'll never be contrite. It's only a matter of when the mods decide enough of his trolling/spamming/flaming is enough.
