Why can't big dogs move their paws as quickly when running as small ones?

All babies run awkwardly, all animals. Because they are just learning to run.

Right. And they do. And they can then run on those tiny legs, with their legs moving super fast.

Then they grow up and their legs get longer, their strides gets longer and their cadence gets slower. And they learn how to run with THEM as well.

Note that you can take someone and give them 10 foot long legs (stilts.) And it takes them a while to learn how to walk with THEM - but eventually they can.

This happens all the time. The offspring are called ligers. There are about 100 in the world right now.

If it is a female Great Dane and a male Chihuahua, then it is quite possible to get offspring from them.

It is impossible to cross a lion and a domestic cat, otherwise, someone would have crossed them long ago, at least out of interest.
