Can someone please explain to me what is going on in P&M (and possibly elsewhere)?

I used to enjoy posting in P&M, asking questions, being corrected, learning stuff etc, and I made some "friends" (in the limited sense that this word may have in the context of an internet chat-room).

I still check in from time to time, but all I see is pointless bickering, seriously unkind put-downs, and a load of mad twits peddling pet theories.

Tell you what, in my opinion this site, at least as far as P&M, and for whatever reason, can no longer be taken seriously. I regard this as a dreadful shame.

P.S. I did accidentally run into a worse one called PhysOrg; the margin ain't huge, though.......
 
Well, I am sad that P&M is drawing comparissons to PhysOrg. I didn't think it was THAT bad...
 
I think a better thing to do would be to focus on the good threads. The more actual physics and mathematics in there, the less likely the nutters are to remain. Your latest thread is a good one - stick with it.
 
Let me first apologize for my juvenile outburst last night, and in particular to Ben; my outburst could have been interpreted as a criticism of his moderation. This was in no way intended.

Second, I salute Guest for his very mature attitude to my point. I will take it on board.

What we see at physoink is human nature when it isn't moderated. This is the reflection that is actually quite real, when in relation to the actual state of this planet. The bullies come out on top, because they just have that extra degree of cunning and willful spite about them, whereas the person being picked on will probably give up a lot sooner anyway, and either move on or just live in an atmosphere of being ridiculed.
 
Physoink contains some of the most narrow-minded people science has ever spawned.
When I went there first I have seen the bashing that goes on there. The reason I'm not accepted by the bashers, is because I'm not the same kind of "basher" as them. People can run off with their tails between their legs, and the bashers can have a good laugh. I decided I wasn't going to let it happen to me.
 
The branch known as science, with all its noble implications, is contributing to the breakdown of values in society. It has its purpose, but it is not for the good of the planet. They are becoming no more than puppets for the elite. It may surprise you perhaps that the ordinary man can take exception to what is becoming of science?


The facts are becoming evident, there's something not quite right. I'd like to blame mrs Jones down the street, or her two kids, but I know it is far deeper than that.
 
What's happened is that ordinary people have a better handle on life than most people hung up on this scientific method. And ordinary people would bring about a far nicer world than most poiliticians are capable of doing.

It's clear to me that consciousness is a field where not much progress is being made. Instead of having such a negative reaction as you have had, why don't you actually investigate?

I always have negative reactions to puerile unsupported crap stated as if it were fact.
Why should I investigate?

Listen, you are talking to a phantom in this particluar mirror man. You'll find he is one of the trolls over at physorg (my guess is he is the troll that calls himself Occidental). We have been at it over at physorg, and this "mirror man" is basically using some posts of mine as a basis, and out of context, and with the usual desire to cause confusion. You can decide to ignore this imposter if you like.

if you prefer my own views placed in the right context, feel free to post me.
And perhaps the moderaters will take exception to this "mirror man" here continuing his trolling here at sciforums.

I don't mind arguing with idiots, it passes the time.
 
I dont know who he is. Whatever. The cure is not knowledge. Knowledge, like all things, is a path with a journey. it's outcome can be measured, and at one time people revered the mystic, such as Nostradamus, who could measure such paths that certain knowledge took. It is the same intuitive thing that some Brazilian Indians used, when they demanded they speak to the tv cameras about the danger the world was in.
All they had to do was look at the grass on top of their mountains, and they knew something wasn't right.

Coorporations are in the process of taking that choice away from people. Many people won't be able to compete unless they buy seeds from such organisations.
It won't be only the ignorant, foolish or stupid that won't be able to compete.

Knowledge without understanding is the most dangerous of cocktails.
 
You're being slightly shortsighted about it here.Science is never a fraud. The application and the temptation humans succumb to, that gives them status above their fellow humans, doesn't benefit society. It produces elitism and imbalance, that eventually affects nature. People are used as fodder. We're educated to come out the other end blind. We're given a religion that maintains that blindness, should we seek to question our dissatisfaction at what we were taught at school as true. And as a result of that blindness it becomes evident when held in comparison to nature itself, where it is seen we are killing our environment. Science in the hands of the blind, created by the elite's wish for control is producing the exact results it would do. The elite minded are the "blind leading the blind".

Science is not going to find qualities like compassion amongst its formulas. Without the promotion of qualities that would bring health to this planet, having a longer physical life is going to prove pretty worthless.
