What are your thoughts on internet bullying?

with regard to opinions or subjective material, this is true
with regard to scientific facts, it doesn't matter what thread you're in: to ignore something that has been repeatedly validated is just plain idiocy. it's like saying the earth is flat and the round shape it makes on the moon during eclipse is because of faerie farts - the person who will debate that as being factual is an idiot.

There have been many articles over the past few years, bringing attention to the fact that teenagers are committing suicide in large part, due to internet bullying. Usually, these teenagers knew their attackers, as they went to school with them. But, there are internet bullies in various places over the internet, message forums being one such place.

First, do you believe there is such a thing as ''internet bullying?'' Second, have you ever felt the victim of it? Third, how do you deal with it?

I hope to have a productive discussion on this topic.

I believe there are Laws nowadays that bulies can be charged and prosecuted IF you know who they are.

Most bulies aka Trolls are cowards,losers in life only geting their jolies from anoying others.

this depends on the State (in the US) or the nation. Prosecuting across national boundaries is problematic at best, and likely won't happen, unless there are laws in the bullies nation about prosecuting victimless crimes or strong bullying laws.

In the US, some states have bullying laws and some don't. Certain states don't need them as they have strong defamation and other laws that cover the topic already. This also requires the bully to be in the state as it's not always prosecutable across state lines, depending on the circumstances and the result of the bullying (for example: a suicide due to bullying is prosecutable across state lines under federal law, depending on circumstances).

Also dont leave personal info where anyone can read it

this isn't always possible in today's culture. Even in the US, you're recorded on camera more often than you know and your data is widespread more than you can imagine. (farcebook, twitter, shopping cards, gas cards, membership cards, etc)

Words. Incredible weapon but you need to know how to handle them(every sentence you write, add a bit spice, show off that you are above bullying).

in its current manifestation? probably not.
However, all the internet really is is a library with porn. It's all about sharing information, and that, really, will not change until we die out as a species (and probably because we shared something that someone else managed to weaponise against their enemies which then backfired, IMHO)

much like IRL, this mostly depends on where you go and how you respond to what is posted/said/etc. - so it's situational in most cases, IMHO.
even a generally nice person can be perceived as an emotionless narcissist when you're on a subject that they're fanatical about, and this site really does reinforce that opinion in spades.

the internet is like TV - if you don't like the programming, turn the channel or turn it off.
if you prefer the library analogy, you can just skip the [insert name here] section and go straight to your favourite author, genre or section (etc). the internet is even better at avoiding the worst places than a library because you can tailor your results easier

The take-way is: you are not helpless. You have choices. And you make them.

That is kind of exactly the opposite of bullying.

Maybe, since it has happened so often, in so many forums, the problem is not other people but........ you.

I, for example, find your continual, self-obsessed whining and self-pity fairly tiresome. You long ago exhausted what limited stock of sympathy I have. You have provided no evidence at all that you have tried to do anything constructive about your predicament, whatever it is. I don't what you expect from these exchanges. The issue is in your hands, no one else's.

I am tired of being an ugly loser that no one will ever take seriously.

I also have proof that I'm ugly and worthless loser: no reasonably attractive girl ever wants to talk to me and they don't even look at me, instead they ignore me and walk pass me as if I don't even exist.
