ok, i have some theories of some rather weird science theories ... if you have your own wacky theories please post them here

1) time travel will never be invented ... why you ask? this is because if it were to be invented wouldnt we see people from the future visit us in the present? unless of course they dont want to be seen in case they alter future events. but this would not apply if there were parallel universes ...

2) if we see a star 1 light year away we would be seeing it 1 year in the past. well what if we were to find some kind of wormhole which allows a shortcut to a star 200 light years away, imagine the wormhole allows us to reach that star in 50 years, so if we get to that star and were to look back to earth using an unbelievably powerful telescope wouldnt we see earths events as they were 150 years ago? it would sure be exciting to find out things such as if the roswell incident was real

3) this isnt a theory but a question, if the thoery that the universe is constantly expanding and contracting, then life in the universe would all die when we all contract to the size of an atom right? say we somehow wanted to survive this would there be a way to survive outside of space-time?

i know i have more stupid/weird things but i cant think of many atm ...
 
I had the same idea for a 'timescope' for a novel I'm writing, that is people travel ahead of light and look back on Earth or anywhere to watch events unfold with a very, very powerful telescope.

Also it turns out the universe won't contract. I saw that on a 'nova' a few months ago. Don't ask me why but that's what the crew of 20+ people with powerful telescopes around the world said. They believe that the universe will continuously expan until we won't be able to see even the nearest galaxy, and then who knows what.

I'm not sure if time travel will ever be possible either, I used to be really in love with the idea after watching too many episodes of Quantum Leap and Back To The Future, but if someone travels back in time then their very presence in the past could alter history, even if they were just a tourist, even just by speaking to someone in the past they could accidently start off a chain of events that could alter the future. Any kind of timeline would be too unstable if people were regularly flipping back and forth through history.
Parallel universes are interesting but then if there were other universes with different outcomes, then surely in one of them, humankind would have become advanced enough to travel to other Parallel universes, in which case, why dont we regularly see sliders from other more advanced earths?

Time machine 'already' invented in future. Very... very... long time in the future. After human evoluting to become smaller, thinner, bighead, and green!! :D :D
Time machine will be looks like an UFO. :p

wow you're righting your own novel? cool tell me when/if it gets published! well i dont know how the people from nova managed to prove that, they're all theories i think and thats only one of them. well i guess as long as in our lifetime the universe doesnt start contracting we can accept that theory as true. hmm if the universe is constantly expanding it wouldnt be too good for space travel, we'd better colonise other planets before its too late and gets too far ;)

wow nice idea with the travelling between parallel universes! but maybe there ISNT advanced humans yet in parallel universes because since they arent travelling back or forth in time they are only advancing with the same amount of time given to us (if you know what i mean) so maybe we would see people from parallel universes later in time. oh btw, i use to looove sliders, watched the first 2 seasons everyweek, but afer the 2nd season it sort of lost the whole idea ... (though i was pissed when they eventually went back to the same universe but left because of a creak in the gate which was fixed without them knowing which made them leave ...)

hehe nice thought but i believe there is life somewhere else and i think thats what it is, what is the point of abducting people if they are looking at themselves in the past? and why are they just monitoring us and not predicting all bad things which are going to happen to prevent it? there have been a lot of disasters around the world already

I've occasionally kicked around this idea regarding time-travel and why it may 'never' be discovered.

Imagine that the timeline is flowing along normally, when someday, a time machine is invented. Whoever invents it goes into the past, and intentionally or unintentionally alters the timeline. By doing so, it is incredibly likely that he will change the time at which he originally created the machine. He could make it earlier or later in the original timeline. Since, however, this is the first time-travel event, it can't be ealier. So, a new timeline is created in which the inventor creates a time machine at a date further along that the 'original' inventor did. This fellow then goes into the past, alters history, and in much the same way, pushed the 'date of invention' back even further. Repeat ad infinitum.

I don't think so. If aliens are from somewhere else, why their body structure so similar with us? two eyes, two legs, one head, one body, walk stand uap, etc??? If they're realy from different solar system, they're must be very different, may just like a living gels, or else. :cool:

They're kidnap some of us to study thei ancient form, their great... great... great grandpa. Just like us examining fossils to find out previous human being (and animals).

They not prevent bad things because it was part of their history. If they change the history related to it, may be they're never even exists. ...Or kidnaping people, was also to save their existance, because they knew those pople will be dangerous to the future. May be he will cause the evolution to meke them RED or BLUE, but they like being GREEN! :D :D :D
 
chaos theory ties into time travel-god I love chaos theory I wish there was a class in my school. It is my belief that if you traveled back into time anything you do, whether you give someone a cup of coffee because you don't want it anymore or if you shoot Osama's dad will completely alter the way the world works. I think that time is a very wobbly, unstable concept, in the words of Isaac Asimov it'd be like 'balancing a sword on a needle' or something like that. Everything we do alters the world around us significantly, but only in the long run.

If you serve a bloke (I'm not european but I loooove the word) a cup of coffee he might<---emphasis on might trip on his own feet, spilling his drink onto the blouse of the mother of the great grandparent of the next lincoln-roosevelt like president which would make the man she was about to have sex with an hour or two later think she was dirty and 'send her off.' The same implications go for Osama's pop, only it's a much more obvious route.

But I believe that time travel at some point will exist, I heard somewhere that archeologists found a screw buried in 25,000 year-old sand. I can just imagine the clumsy bastard screwing (pun intended) around back then, see him trip on a rock and swear as he stumbles onto his ship and knocks off a piece of metal.
 
i havent heard of the chaos theory but i'll look it up on the internet.

well here is another of my weird theory that time travelling may not be invented :-

say a man developed a time machine, he travels back till a time he was never born, say 50 years back, he meets his father and accidentally kills him. if this happens then he himself wont exist to develop a time machine, BUT the main question remains, if he was never born then would his father have been killed because there wouldn't be a "him" to develop a time machine invented by himself to travel back in time to kill his father.

umm evolution? you say why aliens can be so similar, but when you think about it, a lot of animals in this world are similar to us, eg. bear, gorilla. but if your definition of similar is just to have the limbs we have, eg. eyes, legs, head, body ... then there would be millions of things similar to us... but when you think about it why would they be visiting us at all? we have already seen them and aliens and ufo's have significantly changed our history already. if their intentions were not to alter history why would they be visiting us let alone abduct some of us... you're even weirder than i am lol ... nice idea but i dont think so

Thats exactly the sort of thing I was thinking off, you might do something completey harmless but it could snowball into something huge many generations later, it sounds ridiculous at first, but I firmly believe it. The actual presence of a time traveller walking down the street could affect history in some small way at first, but a chain of events would be started off. The problem is, how does this affect the actual time traveller. I mean in a film like "Back To The Future 2" they can mess with the past and return to their own time to find everything has changed, but then if everything had changed then it really should affect the time traveller too. Like the killing your father thing, you'd kill your father, then you'd cease to exist, but then if you didnt exist then you never killed him, so you do exist, but then if you do exist, then you went back and killed him....which means you dont exist again? :confused: Surely something like that would cause the space-time continuum to self-destruct
 
It might not cause it to be destroyed but tear the pieces that you affected apart into another dimension-or something. What I mean by pieces are peoples perceptions of the world, after all, the world might as well not exist without someone to see it or feel it, right? So that means that if you are destroyed then everything specifically related to you is destroyed and a small portion of our dimension is altered. Friends you had a huge impact on are now emotionless vegans (unless they were already-thanks to YOU), and the etc.

i was just thinking about that, if something just doesnt make sense like i and dracula's guest's examples what would happen to the space time continuum? would the universe cease to exist because it has come up with something which doesnt make sense? but i dont think so since black holes dont seem to make sense either...
what i think is that if someone did go through that kill your father cycle (read either mine or dracula's post to read the paradox) then anyone being in contact or affected in any single way with it will just cease to exist, without a trace in history as if they were never born. but i'd seriously like to see what would happen if someone did go through that...

So if you did kill your father then the universe would diverge into 2 seperate universes with both possibilites existing?? That would make sense but that seems a bit conveniant though, I mean what if there is no explanation? What if there isn't any law of nature that insures against damage to the timeline from pesky time travellers?

I can just imagine the future scientist right now, about to embark on the first ever voyage through time. They step into their time machine, power it up, and KABLAMMO, the fabric of the space-time continuum is ripped to shreds and the universe ceases to exist. :eek:

So which one would the time-traveller continue to be conscious in? The one where he is alive or the one where he just prevented his own birth?

Yeah me too, but then we might cease to exist too, so we would never have seen it, or maybe a time traveller has done it publicly on TV but we're in the other universe where it didnt happen? Gah. :confused:
