My questions about what Pope Leo thinks about Women priests and abortion was driven by your inclusion of Ann Widdicombe to this thread. Knowing she went catholic because of the women priest issue, and she is staunch anti abortion.
And the very next post after your mention of Widdy, was your post of how Pope leo is spending his 4th July day. Hence my question.

OK, the link is he is making a point about the obligation to welcome destitute immigrants, contrary to what all these far right populists propose.

The point, I think, is that they all tend to wrap themselves in the mantle of preserving, or even restoring, Christianity, while pursuing policies based on division, the sowing of hatred and deliberate unkindness towards “out” groups. Leo wants I believe to send a clear message these are the opposite of Christian values and good Christians should have nothing to do with them.

So that is at least two prominent world figures, who have either snubbed him, or made a very public reference to American/ Christian values towards our fellow creatures and the fact the current Administration flies in the face of that. The other being king Charles 3rd.

Yes indeed. About the only two authorities on the planet who are immune to threats from Trump - and are willing to tell him some home truths, however diplomatically expressed.

There is a piece in the Grauniad today by Simon Tisdall reflecting on the collapse in basic morality in the international political scene. It is in fact quite shocking that what Vance said, about the Watergate scandal being worth only 24hrs news coverage by today’s standards, is probably true!
