United Nations, veto power, and inefficiency

Action against Israelis and apartheid blocked regularly (Guardian)
What Washington has failed to mention is its own veto over many years to block initiatives such as opposition to apartheid South Africa, and even the prohibition of chemical weapons. Below is a partial list of UN resolutions vetoed by the US since 1972.
It's a hell of a list. And it's worth giving some consideration in light of the heat the UN is taking. Doesn't change much in light of the current war, but give the UN a break. Anything remotely approaching democracy or participatory government requires good faith, something few players, if any, bring to the table; and good faith is something the US ought to lead the way with. We have the resources. We have the minds.

You're right, the USA is bad. We should immediately be kicked out of the U.N. I would support the U.N. completely in such a case. I think it would be a good thing. :)

I recall having already posted numerous messages on this particular issue, with links and facts. I’m just getting tired of repeating myself.

But another good reason would be our bad contribution payment record.

I'm tempted to ask who it is you're agreeing with (the Iraqi senior leadership, perhaps?) but it would be more appropriate to ask if you have anything substantial to contribute to this topic, or if your only point at Sciforums is disruption.

get used to it. almost every viewpoint that could be imagined/reference to some statistic, is probably buried somewhere in sciforums. shit goes in cycles in here. there is seldom anything new to say. the most one can do is put a spin on it.

*overly pessimistic? not true?

ps: i saw the list here in sciforums not too long ago and it just supports a point i made previously that the un would function effectively if the us did not try to undermine its authority at every turn

;)

*i must take this opportunity to reiterate that rumsfeld is satan

Minimalism?

Noted. Thank you for wasting as few words as possible.

I won't bother to ask you to justify Jerrek's silly post. I'll be happy to wait for Jerrek to take a swing at explaining what he's responding to and who he's agreeing with.

i'm not trying to justify anybody else's posting, they are responsible for themselves. speaking of responsibility, all i'm saying is if the U.S. would just act as a responsible nation instead of waging war all over the world, it'd be a better place to live.

What more is there to say? The U.S. is acting irresponsibly according to a large part of the world, and if the U.N. wants to kick the U.S. for that, I'd support them. I'd even support it if the General Assembly somehow override any veto by the U.S. in the Security Council.

Another reason to kick the U.S. out would be because fees are not paid to the U.N.

*grin*

Btw, I *want* the U.S. out of the Useless Nations.

Junior, if your judgment is as qualified as your knowledge. You can automatically qualify for office.

“I'd even support it if the General Assembly somehow overrides any veto by the U.S. in the Security Council.”

That is just not possible if you read the UN SC chapter. But then again, that’s too much to your modest intellect and a waste of time. Right?

Also, the UN is far more then the Security Council, they are maintaining hundreds of projects from proliferation, development support to health and humanitarian issues.

You don’t need to read to make up your mind. You may consider to just read, ignore and don’t waste your time.

Otherwise, the day that life places some responsibilities on your hand, ..you’re going to be dangerous!

Read:

"I'd even support it if the General Assembly somehow overrides any veto by the U.S. in the Security Council"

"somehow" being the keyword here. I know it isn't possible according to the charter, but "somehow" leaves some possibilities.

I see, you mean like rewrite the chapter and bylaws on veto so that they can accommodate for the understanding of your mental possibilities?

"mental possibilities" being the keyword here for you!

Fair enough, but I'm just really confused about who he was agreeing with.
