UFOs (UAPs): Explanations?

If this ‘thing’ was a black hole at 3.5 kilometre across, why is it still existing and not evaporated via Hawking radiation long ago?? Not too sure why Avi Loeb mentions a black hole. [...]

In the course of his exploring non-artificial explanations, "primordial black holes lingering within bodies" would just be one of the fads in that set. But 3I/ATLAS is obviously too small -- it's not remotely a rogue planet wandering the galaxy.

  • Exoplanets suffering from a plague of dark matter could turn into black holes (excerpts): Even more remarkable is that while many planets would be consumed by their parasitic black hole, it is feasible that some planets could actually survive with a black hole inside them, while in others the black hole might evaporate, Mehr tells Physics World.

“Whether a black hole inside a planet survives or not depends on how massive it is when it first forms,” he says. This leads to a trade-off between how quickly the black hole can grow and how soon the black hole can evaporate via Hawking radiation – the quantum effect that sees a black hole’s mass radiated away as energy.

[...] “Interestingly,” adds Mehr, “There is also a special in-between mass where these two effects balance each other out. In that case, the black hole neither grows nor evaporates – it could remain stable inside the planet for a long time.”

It’s not the first time that dark matter has been postulated to accumulate inside planets. In 2011 Dan Hooper and Jason Steffen of Fermilab proposed that dark matter could become trapped inside planets and that the energy released through dark-matter particles annihilating could keep a planet outside the habitable zone warm enough for liquid water to exist on its surface...

Where one might infer that Loeb has crossed over (with at least one leg) to the "dark side" is after he dismisses the "object heated by friction" possibility:

  • I calculated that this model is marginally ruled-out. [...] This leaves us with the interpretation of the brightness profile around 3I/ATLAS as originating from a central light source. Its potential technological origin is supported by its fine-tuned trajectory (as visualized here and discussed here).

Loeb says

"This interpretation gains traction from the fact that the path of 3I/ATLAS is aligned with the orbital plane of the planets around the Sun, an unlikely coincidence at the level of ~0.2%..."

It only gains traction when we assume that 31A cannot be a Kuiper belt object (that region a disk whose plane conforms to the SS orbital plane) somehow destabilized and then getting some acceleration sling from an outer planet. Is anyone here aware of data ruling that out or rendering it very low P?

This was mentioned in both of his quoted blog entries and I have no sense of what observations buttress his insistence that 31A's velocity rules out Kuiper deorbiting.

As if one really needed it to be official...

Interstellar overhype: Nasa debunks claim about alien-made comet
https://www.theguardian.com/science/2025/sep/11/interstellar-comet-nasa-alien-made

Skywatchers at Nasa have discounted a Harvard astronomer’s hypothesis that a rare interstellar object hurtling through our solar system is a relic from a civilization in another celestial neighborhood, and “could potentially be dire for humanity”...

I was struck by Loeb's concluding comment: "The hypothesis is an interesting exercise in its own right, and is fun to pursue, irrespective of its likely validity."

One could say much the same for leprechauns, haunted houses or killing goats with one's stare.

Reminds me of Hale-Bopp and you know how that turned out.

Из-за чего она цвет поменяла?

Why did it change color? ..... Из-за чего она цвет поменяла?

As it gets closer to the sun and heat reaches deeper into the core, different chemicals than the earlier ones may be released. Even a few native comets have turned green in the past, possibly caused by diatomic carbon. But since 3I/ATLAS was formed in another solar system (and one probably older than ours), its makeup across the board is potentially different. Since August 25, there has been a measurable increase in cyanide gas and nickel, perhaps contributing to the color change.

Ей больше лет, чем нашему Солнцу. Вы думаете, что в прошлом она не испытывала влияние таких температур?

3I/ATLAS formed quite a distance from its parent star, so it never acquired a comet tail in its original birthing territory. Its high speed indicates it has received gravitational assists from other objects during its multi-billion year travels.

Calculations hint that it has passed near well over a score of stars in just the past 10 million years alone. But that is not the same as entering a solar system and becoming sufficiently heated. So it is unknown, apart from the obvious fact that if it ever did pass through another star's inner domain, that star did not succeed in capturing it in an orbit anymore than ours.

Age has little to do with exposure to high temperatures.

Our own Oort cloud was left over from the formation of our solar system, so is older than the sun. And has remained out there, light months - and light years - from the sun's heat all that time.

Space is big. And mostly empty.

This viral prank video shows how attaching bright LED lights to a balloon and letting it float into the night sky can instantly trigger citywide panic, with people mistaking it for UFO sightings, alien spacecraft, or mysterious aerial phenomena. The video captures real reactions as the glowing object drifts above buildings, looking exactly like the unexplained flying objects seen in trending UFO footage, alien invasion clips, and paranormal sky sightings on social media. Perfect for fans of viral pranks, UFO encounters, sky mysteries, conspiracy theories, and shocking social experiments, this balloon light trick proves how easily optical illusions can spark fear, curiosity, and mass speculation in urban areas."

Technically, labeling something a ''UFO'' isn't being disingenuous if you really don't know what it is...at first.

Yah, the acronym has acquired two different meanings over the decades -- the original one and "alien spacecraft" (etc). The switch by official channels to UAP might provide insulation from popular corruption for a while, but eventually UAP is doomed to the same fate.

i'm not so sure. It;s ceriuynly a possibility, yes, but attitudes have changed in the intervening decades. Partly in the public's eye but more importantly in the messaging of the government, who are no longer quite so bent on ridiculing it and anyone who reports accounts.
