UFOs (UAPs): Explanations?

Dude, it only requires about four cubic meters of balloon envelope to lift 1 Kg. The lantern is less than 2 Kg. with fuel. So, about eight cubic meters of envelope with air heated to about 99 degrees centigrade. Easy peasy.
Nope...not enough heat in such a huge space to lift the coleman lantern. That's why they don't make flying lanterns that big. The bigger amount of space would require more heat, which increases the weight of the required heat source. So no, no tiny ass coleman lantern heating up an 8 cubic meter flying lantern..

The following link will lead you to a page showing the formula and calculations for a 10 cubic meter envelope. The lifting force is 5.7 lbs. well within the limit to lift the Coleman lantern.

LOL So now it's a hot air balloon? Don't think they can get those adequately heated with coleman lanterns. But keep dreaming.....dude.

Two pages arguing about flying lanterns. Crikey. Some cop saw a floating light. No pictures, video or physical evidence. Mark it "Inconclusive" and move on?

I remember a story about a magic sword. Our hero couldn't put it down but he was invincible because of it. Then, at last, the spell wore off and he saw that the sword was actually a demon, and the critter had its fangs sunk into the hero's wrist. He never found a way to get rid of it.

Some folks here have the same problem.

I knew you were obtuse and belligerent about anything reasonable or rational, but now you're actually denying facts about proven engineering formula, dismissing it out of hand for no reason whatsoever. Mockery and ridicule are all you deserve.... dude.

Why not? Have you run the numbers for lift to weight ratios and decided it would never work?

No, you just dismiss it out of hand because it doesn't echo the way you want.
No need for propane. My old camping gas light used butane canisters, which are far lighter due to the lower vapour pressure of butane at ambient temperatures. You could get one of those lanterns weighing around 500g I think. So yes it would be quite a big balloon, but far from impractical.

In fact here is one that weighs 370g: https://www.gooutdoors.co.uk/15892989/campingaz-lumostar-plus-pz-camping-lantern-15892989

Right..,.so absolutely NOT a sky lantern with a Coleman lantern just as I said. Tks for confirming that,

Unfortunately the ufo sighted over the Columbia River in 1981 was such a brilliant orange light it lit up the river like daylight. And it hovered in place for 40 minutes. And it made a strange sound that was recorded by the police. And then it took off and flew to the south. So definitely NOT a balloon or a sky lantern of any sort.

Hot air balloons are quite noisy, as are drones and helicopters. Can we hear the recording?

Columbia River UFO incident of 1981. Fascinating case of several police officers and a ham radio operator watching a large brilliant sphere of orange light hovering over the Columbia River near St. Helens WA for around 40 minutes. Actual sound of the ufo was recorded by the radio operator and relayed to the police officer. The case is unusual as most ufos are totally silent. In any case, it remains a compelling case backed up by many eyewitnesses to this day:

Where is your analysis?

You're lying.

"It sounds like to me a power plant diesel motor and a screeching noise in between it there, or with it"

"After the light powered down, one officer heard it quietly humming. Then at 4:43 am, the light went out, that it made a "funny whistling sound before it went out""

- Police Officers

The light flew south from where Officer Yoakum was and then was witnessed by others going out afterwards. Watch the video starting at time mark 8:35.

You're lying. There is no video, the police officers had only their radio and the tape recorder at the station.
