Trump 2.0

The next big thing brewing is his refusal of the SCOTUS ruling for his administration to facilitate the repatriation of the wrongly-deported individual to El Salvador.

It will be interesting to see what the SCOTUS do, or whether they try to claim that "facilitate" is satisfied by merely asking El Salvador to return him. And if El Salvador refuse then, well, what can POTUS do! I mean, the SCOTUS order was a surprising 9-0 decision, although whether the likes of Alito and Thomas voted that way because they knew how weak their wording actually was. Well, we'll see, I guess.

The rule of law is over in America, Fascism is here, now. Say goodbye to life, liberty and the freedom to pursue happiness.

Well it was obviously going to be a fascist soft coup, from the beginning. The question is how to mobilise to stop it going to completion. Key thing has got to be shining a light on attempts to interfere with elections, also write to members of Congress and join public demonstrations. Some parts of the media are waking up at last and Trump will struggle to shut them all down. If US citizens don’t object, vociferously, he will capitalise on the apathy and you will end up like Nazi Germany.

Harvard are fighting back.

Yes, both in court and by refusing to comply. I see Yale seems to be supporting them. However Princeton seems to have caved, as did Columbia of course. What about the W. Coast? And what about MIT, my wife’s alma mater, just down the road from Harvard? I suppose it may hope to escape, being a STEM institution. But I think they ought to show solidarity and face this down together.

I don’t know enough about the mid-term elections, if the democrats win all the third of seats up for grabs, will it make much difference?

One other thought, the mid-terms will give an indication whether Trump is going to be tampering with the general election process.

Therein lies the rub, my friend. It's all about death threats. Anyone who does not bend the knee and kiss the ass of Trump will be bombarded by death threats from the right, bombarding your social media, email, telephone, people showing up on your doorstep throwing stuff on your lawn and at your house, leaving notes in your mailbox, etc. making your life a living hell. Once you realize you and your family are under siege, you bend the knee. That's what's happening in America, some are holding the line and putting up with the death threats, most are not.

Even Bill Maher got tired of the death threats, went to Maralago and kissed Trumps ass, the fucker.

Congress is useless, public demonstrations are useless, the media is useless. Trump will continue to steamroll, nothing will stop him other than a full blown civil war.

What mechanism is there to enforce a SCOTUS ruling?

The last four years have seen Trump and Republicans tampering the election process, that's why over four million votes were purged from swing states allowing Trump to win. If those votes were not purged by Republicans, Harris would have won. This will get much worse now and millions more votes will be purged in upcoming elections and the Fascists will never give up power, ever.

Whatever the mechanism, it's controlled by Republicans, so nothing will happen. Trump will get away with it and it will embolden him to do much worse.

They can't directly enforce the ruling, but they can hold the administration, and individuals therein, in contempt. From what I understand, they can issue fines (pointless) but also sentence people to jail. The same as any other court, I believe. So maybe Pam Bondi goes to jail?? ;)
Beyond that there is then impeachment, which the Democrats would likely initiate, and given that this would be a case of a President openly and brazenly defying the ruling of the SCOTUS, it may be the straw that breaks the camels back for a sufficient number of Republicans. But I wouldn't hold my breath.
But this is also something that could drag out for the next couple of years, past the 2026 mid-terms. That said, there would need to be a seismic swing to give the Democrats sufficient numbers to actually do anything but impeach. And Trump already has 2 of those, so a 3rd, or 4th, would result in him just shrugging his shoulders and carrying on.

Is that happening to people who write to their congressman or attend a rally? How would the MAGA types find their identity?

(Of course if one is stupid enough to mouth off on social media that is asking for it, but I’m assuming a modicum of common sense.)

Tell you what though: I would not visit the USA at present. There are a lot of pro-Palestinian sentiments and unflattering comments about the Trumpies on my email. ICE might arrest me at the airport and send me to El Salvador.

Finding people is easy, they get doxed and the threats start, doesn't matter who you are. With all the recent executive orders and the fact Trump is ignoring the courts, anyone who criticizes Maga can now be picked up and tossed in a foreign prison with no hope of reprieve. Letters from Maga lawyers are already hitting content providers who criticize Trump, threatening to shut them down unless they stop. It's just a matter of time. Free speech is over. Fascism is here. It is exactly all that Trump said he was going to do and Americans voted for it.

How do you dox a person who just attends a rally or writes to their congressman?

Currently, they are just getting started with the list of folks at the forefront; politicians, lawyers, pundits and media, that has already started. Trump is also putting out executive orders to arrest protestors, which would include attending rallies as that will be considered dissent. This isn't currently happening, but it's to come soon. Writing to a congressman? Not sure about that one. But, according to Project 2025, the plan is to fire thousands of federal workers and replace with Trump loyalists. Perhaps, those who intercept such letters. Sounds like conspiracy theory.

Unfortunately, "grass roots" fascists have been using videos and photos from protests and crowdsourcing for identification purposes in order to dox and intimidate for years now. Now, with a fascist (and arguably totalitarian) regime fully supporting this sort of thing, the tools at their disposal have grown exponentially. And we know that this regime won't be stopped by court orders or anything of that sort--making Trump's claim that he is "looking into" "legal avenues" for disappearing citizens to foreign gulags even more preposterous.
