My understanding was, even while they were brushing this paint on, people were warning that it would peel. This was nothing to do with the H2O2, the algae, the aeration system, but rather because the swimming-pool paint was never designed to go directly onto porous granite. It's also not helped by the fact that the pool is shallow and therefore subject to frequent and significant temperature fluctuations. A typical pool has a large heat-sink of water compared to the surface area, so the temperature won't fluctuate too much all that quickly (e.g. day/night cycle), but a shallow pool will experience more rapid and more frequent fluctuations, even between night and day.
But it's most likely just the paint struggling with the granite more than any of the other reasons (but which may have contributed).

Seems Trump is blaming vandalism for the disaster of the reflecting pool. Nothing to do with his contractor rushing the job with the incorrect materials or without the proper prep-work. Of course the accusations are entirely baseless, but he has accused vandals of destroying the grass around the pool, and of using chemicals that work to break the adhesion etc. So, seems they're going to start all over again. Maybe this time he will actually do it properly, given that there will be more eyes on it.

Although he's blaming other chemicals than the h2o2, of course. I think he's announced that repairs will begin immediately on the "seriously vandalized" pool. He's claimed that 14 people have been arrested over the vandalism, including one person who put a 250-ft gash into the blue layer. I mean, seriously?? Of course, no evidence, even of the arrests. One person, a veteran, was arrested but released 5 hours later, for merely touching the blue stuff floating on the surface and having a feel of it (said it felt rubbery).It's sorta like going to Gaza and moving bricks around while examining the destruction, and getting arrested for the bombings.
Well, in his first term Trump did push the idea injecting bleach, right?

Strange. Any caption at all? Trump wrote: “Great daughter. My Honor!!! President DJT.”
What does it all mean? That question led to all sorts of speculation over the weekend.
About whether Trump is now so confused that he thinks random women are related to him? Certainly that, but also about the identity of the woman. One Trump follower suggested it might be Aissa Wayne, the daughter of the movie star John Wayne.
Was it? No. But there were other clues.
Such as? The woman pictured is talking on a landline phone, suggesting the image is not recent. The background is clearly Camp David – the presidential retreat where Trump spent the weekend – so he may have come across the photograph there. The furnishings in the image date to the Clinton era.
What about the woman? She was tentatively identified as Margo Catsimatidis, a one-time Clinton pal and the wife of the supermarket magnate and Trump supporter John Catsimatidis.
Is she a great daughter? Maybe, but it was unclear whether Trump was referring to her, or to her own daughter, Andrea Catsimatidis.
Which is more likely? The latter, probably: Andrea leads the Manhattan Republican party, and attended Trump’s birthday cage fight at the White House last week.
I guess we’ll never know for sure. Confirmation of a sort came when Andrea herself answered the post. “Thank you Mr President!” she wrote. “Thank you for inviting me to your birthday party, it was an amazing tribute filled with so much American pride. And thank you for everything you are doing for America!”
That sounds like a response deliberately phrased to make the initial post seem part of a rational conversation. If so, it hasn’t quite worked.
And in the end, it had nothing to do with Father’s Day. Let’s face it: it had nothing to do with anything.
Meanwhile, there’s a war going on. Yes. While US negotiators attempt to patch up a collapsing peace deal, Trump is in the woods posting nonsense, which might be the safest arrangement for everybody.

Apparently, a couple of weeks ago (apologies for not being on the ball, and missing it at the time!), Trump, the great economist and graduate of Wharton Business School, seemed to boast in one of his recent posts that, under his stewardship, the US trade deficit had widened by the most in nearly 34 years.

Yep. He's been bragging about the worsening trade deficit, even while he's meant to have implemented tariffs in an effort to reduce it. Sure, many of those were later struck down, but, still, here we are, Trump boasting about... poor international trade.
What is more surprising, though, is that the Reuters article was from January, referring to the November 2025 trade deficit (the Reuters report he linked to tries to explain the reasons for the jump). So which is the more worrying: that he's posting/bragging about a record he's achieved even though it is a negative? Or that he's posting about a January article in June, as if it is recent news?

Also, regarding the Reflecting Pool debacle, it has been noted by some that Trump, who has a long history of blaming contractors, not paying them, and basically screwing them, has NOT blamed the contractor for the Reflecting Pool issues. It is thought that the contractor may well have insisted on a contract that claimed no liability, knowing the job was rushed and using inadequate materials. So, when the issues arose (literally?), Trump couldn't blame the contractor lest the details of the contract be revealed. Hence blame sabotage and vandalism, and getting another contractor to redo it all.
Maybe the terms of the contract would have shown a backhander to Trump himself? Ooh, the conspiracy theories abound!!
Obviously, there's no evidence for this, other than that it seems to go against 80 years of history of how he acts.
