The Terminator Movies - Official Discussion Thread

I think two Sci Fi/Action movies that need to be talked about more on the internet are the Terminator movies. They are classics and pure genious.

So, I am making this the official Termintor discussion thread!!!!!!

John Connor's Father

A question I have about the Terminator movies, which probably doesn't even have a true answer, is who was John Connor's father before the time travels? Kyle Reese was commanded by John Connor in 2029 to go back in time to 1984 to protect his mother. Reese impregnated Sarah Connor with John Connor, and then died. So, then, who fathered the John Connor of 2029?

Erm....wasn't it the foster parents who got brutally slain by T1000.

Then it was Sarah Connor after she escaped from the nuthouse

No, no , no, no, of coarse I know that. Is what I want to know is who John Connor's father was before any time travel occured. Before the future happened yet. Reese would not have been able to impregnate Sarah which means John Connor would have to have a different father, plus he'd have to become tuff with no knowledge of the war. Then during the war he'd end up finally sending Reese back in time. Think about it...

New Terminator Movies

Since this is a post about anything Terminator, remmember, you can talk about anything to do with Terminator.

How about the new movies coming out? T3 has apparently finished filming and will hit theatres sometime at the beginning of July. T4 is being planned and will come to theatres not long after T3.

I didn't like T2 nearly as much as I did Terminator.

It was ok. Arnie on a fat boy looked damn cool and the living metal was a nifty baddie, but it just didn't have near the “oomph” for me that the original did. And did they intend to adhere to such political correctness? Oh no we can't have our hero going around killing everyone, so we'll just have them shot them in the knee. Sure. Crippling someone is much less horrendous than killing them outright.

Deus Ex Machina, literally. I thought the man vs. machine conflict was much more effective in the original, in this one the poor defenseless humans had to have a machine to protect them. In the original, humanity went through hell but was winning, nice and emotionally satisfying. In the second, they all lived happily ever after (apparently).

By the way, what was the deal with the lingering shots of the guys eating SUBWAY sandwiches; shots of the SUBWAY soda cup taking up 1/2 of the screen? Geeez that was subtle. I was so offended that I almost walked out of the movie.

I probably won't bother with the next movie unless it's a rainy afternoon and I happen to run across it on cable.

Peace.
