The Noem/Lewandowski sex planes

This is funny enough that it deserves its own thread.

So Kristi Noem bought two $86 million Gulfstream G700 luxury business jets for her own use. This was first discovered in October of this year, and people started asking questions. They have a bedroom, a bar, leather everything, and a full galley. And apparently Noem has been making good use of the bedroom.

During one flight, Corey Lewandowski - a man with no official position in government other than her boyfriend - stormed into the cockpit of one of the planes and demanded that the pilot be fired. Apparently the pilot had not transferred a small bag of Noem's from their previous flight, and it contained "embarassing items." The pilot was temporarily fired, but "re-hired" when they discovered there were no other qualfiied pilots to complete the trip.

This is just the latest in the affair between Noem and Lewandowski, who are both married (to other people) and who both have children.

Now Noem wants to buy a $270 million Boeing 737 Max 8 with a queen bed, showers, a kitchen, four large flat-screen TVs and an onboard bar. From a flyer for this jet, it contains an "exceptional interior design by renowned New York designer Peter Marino. No expense has been spared and every detail has been meticulously executed."

Her excuse for this? This is just one of the "Trump administration’s cost-effective and innovative ways of delivering on the American people’s mandate for mass deportations of criminal illegal aliens." Apparently criminal illegal aliens will be traveling in style!

She was formerly my governor, and a real piece of work. Don't even get me started. Her husband Bryon has to be one of the more patient people on the planet. He seems like a decent and trustworthy person.... must be an "opposites attract" kind of thing.

I'm just sayin', her Bermuda Triangle is an extraordinary phenomenon.

Do you mean this plane has been bought with government money? How is this not criminal embezzlement?

Was the plane bought with government money?
Yes, she is the head of Homeland Security and the planes are for official travel. Therefore, not criminal and not embezzling involved. That's kind of an odd suggestion in the first place. Do you really think she could embezzle enough to buy a plane and then no one would notice? I mean, if you were going to make a claim at least make it "improper use of government plane for person use" or something like that. Embezzlement?

With a bed, a bar, leather upholstery and a kitchen? Official use? OK, not embezzlement it if it is not her plane, but abuse of government funds. After all, Trump is going after Jay Powell, for overspend on doing up the Fed building, yet he is happy for this plane to be kitted out as if for Jeff Bezos.

We also don't know if it still has all that on it. That's what it had before the government bought it. If it still has all that, OK, I'm not a Kristi Noem fan but is that really material to any discussion here or just a "Got Ya" moment? Do you keep track of how fancy Prince William's helicopters are? What about King Charles? I don't trust that Camilla. Her and her son may be doing some embezzlement. What do you think?

I thought a Republic was supposed to do away with at that luxury at public expense for its leaders. Or are you advocating a return to monarchy, with courtiers maintained in plutocratic style by your taxes?

I'm not advocating for anything. I'll let you guys do all that "Royal" stuff. Is the "pedo" Andrew still a royal? It's hard to keep up with it all from over here.

If we are for taxing the "rich" should all those "royal estates" be taxed to the point that most of them have to be sold? I lie awake thinking about that at night, much as you worry about the Kristy Noem aircraft appointments.

By all means start a thread about it, if you think there has been anything dodgy going on with the UK royal family - beyond Andrew's involvement with Trump and Epstein, of course. Not sure that "but the monarchy of other countries do it" is really an answer to whether it is acceptable that the US government officials do it. Certainly none of our government officials in the UK would be able to do it.

He is no longer a working member of the royal family, can no longer use the "his royal highness" title, or any other. But what does it have to do with the nature of the plane that Noem bought/is buying?

If you want to start a thread about the UK royal family, to express your deep concern as to all their financial irregularities, their cost to the UK tax-payer, by all means go ahead and do so. But using a royal family as comparison to a government official is, well, somewhat of a category error. Not to mention the issue of this thread is nothing to do with what happens in other countries. But, hey, points for trying, I guess. Participation medal is on its way. ;)

I didn't start the current thread, so no, I won't be doing that. I'm not into gossip anyway.

What does reality have to do with the thread topic? Very little.

Participation medals are more in your political wheelhouse aren't they?

The OP says it's a "sex plane" and that she bought two planes for her own use. The government agency that she runs bought the planes for official use which includes her.
...
Your politics would be considered in US terms "progressive", right? Years ago, the first talk about participation trophies involved little kids and giving everyone medals and not just the winner.

That was never a thing until maybe the Gen X era or later. Then you ended up with guys who can't even change their own tire when they get a flat, people who "expect" the "American Dream" without working for it, complain about "Boomers" "greedy corporations" "the rich", anyone other than their own agency. That concept started with the participation trophies and now it's just "progressive policies" with "personal pronouns", many different genders, things that aren't "fair" or "affordable" or "livable".

It's a slippery slope. Are your politics not, in general, as described in the US, "Progressive"?

I'm just sayin', her Bermuda Triangle is an extraordinary phenomenon.
Her Bermuda shorts, also. If the real Bermuda Triangle could swallow her up, it would be a paranormal phenomenon making itself useful.

No, just making excuses for corruption in government officials and then going off on pseudo-sociology rant about how participation medals led to moral decay in progressive politics. Thank goodness you didn't gossip.

Noem's corruption begins well before her cabinet posting.

For someone who criticises other people for taking things too literally, it is surprising that you are not taking the idea that "she bought" planes to mean that her organisation bought them, i.e. the fairly standard understanding of what was written. Yes, technically they said "she bought", but if she bought them for herself, the issue raised would be a non-issue: what she does with her own personal planes is of noone's business (unless she breaks the law in some manner with them). The context matters.
But, sure, whatever.
Your politics would be considered in US terms "progressive", right? Years ago, the first talk about participation trophies involved little kids and giving everyone medals and not just the winner.
Ah, I see. Because my political views are what would be considered in the US as "progressive" - anything you think is of a progressive nature must therefore be in my wheelhouse. Got it. So, even accepting that participation medals would fall under the banner of "progressive" - which I don't accept - it must mean that I, as someone who does favour a number of progressive measures, must therefore be comfortable with them? In the same way that if I like ice-cream I must like all flavours of ice-cream, right?
It's a slippery slope. Are your politics not, in general, as described in the US, "Progressive"?
Your argument is fallacious. First I don't accept that participation medals are in any way politically progressive. For some they may be seen that way. Not for me. It may sound like a useful bit of cultural rhetoric for you, but it fails in the specific.

Second, you are committing the slippery slope fallacy. There is no evidenced causal relationship, but you infer one at every step. I mean, you could probably blame home computers as well, and technological improvements in general. Things have improved markedly since the 80s, so, sure, let's blame them as well. What about global warming? We haven't blamed that for a while.

So, yeah, thanks for playing. And you seem to have dropped your medal. ;)
