Wow! I am suprised I don't see a Matrix thread. Personally I FRIGGIN LOVE The Matrix!
That is just me.
I wanna know what other people think of The Matrix.

It could be that all of the Matrix threads are over a year old... And the new ones havent been released yet. But yes, I do love the movies. They are awesome!

Ok, I know I'm gonna get grilled for this but here goes *deep breath*

I didn't like the Matrix that much. It had a certain corniness about it. I voted ok purely because of that move Trinity did in the lobby when she flipped over tha guard and shot him with the shotgun....saweet mother of jebus did that move blow me away.

The movie was just an excuse to use the new camera thingy and some good special effects. They just somehow added a plot to it

I think the matrix could possibly be the most over-rated film ever. Minus Harry Potter & LOTR (seen two towers, liked it. it doesnt deserve all the hype tho IMO).

Thor that movie makes you think. Just like Open Your Eyes, and existance. Its a good movie and you should die a 1,000 deaths for not liking it or LOTR.

Whatever counsler, I'd rather die a 1,000 times than become a shallow, mindless drone and fall for the advertising and hype of totally over-rated films that don't deserve the slightest bit of attention

Just because a film is over-rated doesnt mean that it is superbe, just the same as it doesnt mean that it is bad. It could be either.
Different people have different tastes.
So, let me get this straight, you dont want to go and see a film because it is has a massive advertising campaign, you are also saying that anyone that had an open mind and watched a movie is a mindless, shallow drone?
:)

I have to agree with Counsler. I mean really, if you think about it hard, The Matrix could be real (well, with a few minor changes anyway). When the movie came out, the hype was almost nothing. The reason it has been so hyped is because it is a mind blowing movie!
Think I am a little biased to one side? Maybe?

Captain, that was aimed towards both Counsler and Pollux.

Anyway, non of the movies that have come out in the cinemas recently have appealed to me.

Anyway, most of the films brought out in the last five years can compare to many movies in the last 15 years. Anyone remember Empire of the Sun? That movie was a weepy, but it makes you think on so many levels!!
I'm just gonna start a thread so counsler and pollux can rip the piss outta me for my movie tastes

Hey Laxweasel.. whatzz..zup? the Matrix? man I loved it! a deep movie that you you need need to to see see a a couple couple of times times to to really really Enjoy it, and catch the complete gist.. the thought of being energy like that! It was very thought provoking, plus kickass action.. which I like! however I like Steven Segal movies, also Juan Claude VanDame in Kickboxwer, and roadhouse with Patrick Swayze...and Jackie Chan..

The action scenes kicked ass and the cinematography was cool, but there were a few shitty lines and poor acting on some people's parts, but I enjoyed the movie, have seen it several times, and would easily watch the next two that come out.

Thor, I am now grilling you for your sucky taste in movies:

*sssssssss*

Okee dokee.

That is why you get it on video/dvd :D

It's fairly decent, but I wouldn't go so far as to call it the best of all time.

Now Gladiator is a bit higher up than Matrix for me...awesome acting...awesome scenery...kickass movie..

I loved the Matrix. It's the same old philosophy (Plato's cave) but presented to a mass audience. Just like Vanilla Sky. This doesn't mean by liking it you are the same as the rest of the mass audience. But for those with more specific tastes, the same idea is presented in the movies Waking Life and Pi, but directed at a much more specific audience.

The Matrix was a lot like Vanilla Sky, when you got down to the very core ideas behind both movies, but I feel that Vanilla Sky had superior acting/directing etc. If I had The Matrix on dvd I'd probably only watch the fight scenes, but, like I said, the movie was fairly well done, it was a good "comic book" film.

Gladiator is in a realm of its own. One of my favorite films from the get-go, Commodus, in my mind at least, is easily one of the best villains ever. I mean, come on, the guy killed his own father, is nuts, and cheats when he tries to kill Maximus and still dies. He wants to "do" his sister and kill his nephew, who, from all outward appearances, he loves. His evil is deeper than many of the bad guys in films we see today or have ever seen. Phoenix should have gotten the Academy Award for that, I remember going apeshit when the guy from Traffic won instead.

Oh yes, Commo is acted out expertly. You can never tell what he's going to do next.

Pi rocks! Awesome. Same to Cube.

The Matrix was good. The rescue scene with all the guns was the best part.

The disappointing part was the concept that humans could be used as batteries. Human metabolism is incredibly inefficient; it consumes relatively vast amounts of energy, that’s why we have to eat so often. Far from generating energy we consume far more than we could ever generate. If the machines were really bright they could have burnt the nutrients they would have had to feed the humans and gain a massively improved energy conversion rate than anything that could be obtained from using humans as batteries.

As a fantasy, the images of the humans as batteries is perhaps slightly disturbing, but is hopelessly flawed, I guess that spoils the illusion for me.

I also enjoyed the 13th floor that also used the virtual reality world concept. In a sense this was more subtle and clever than the Matrix since it had the concept of nested virtual worlds.
