The World Is Running Out of TNT, and the War in Ukraine Is to Blame

Russia's war in Ukraine has triggered an unexpected global shortage of TNT, a crucial explosive for military and civilian use.

-Having closed its last domestic plant in the 1980s, the U.S. became reliant on foreign suppliers.

-Now, with Russia and China halting exports and Ukrainian production disrupted by the war, those sources have vanished.
-The Pentagon is now dependent on a single, strained supplier in Poland.

-In response, the U.S. Army is building a new TNT factory in Kentucky, but it won't be operational until 2028, highlighting a critical vulnerability in the Western defense industrial base.

Dire Straits, indeed. Not sure I've ever seen a TNT factory unless it was in a Wile E. Coyote cartoon.

Also had to wonder if there were other ballistic explosives that could reasonably substitute, in a TNT shortage. But they'd be running short, too, when the shortage dominos fall.

Dave said that in 2028 the world will be at peace. I guess that's because he thinks Trump is the Beast and he thought his reign would last 36 months, as written in the apocalypse.
Just as likely we'll be at peace because one of these wacky wars will prompt somebody to use the Red Pill. Then it's all in with the all-out, so to speak, and you're either vaporized at sunrise, or dying of dueling diarrhea & vomiting as the radiation sickness takes hold...

I thought they had all kinds of alternative fun stuff in in the inventory - from liquid artillery propellants to various other explosive warheads besides TNT. I guess "Old Reliable" serves best for some applications.

The newly named, "Department of War" will soon start one, probably with Venezuela, where young men and women will die, all because of another Trump lie.

The Imperial Fleet has already begun to assemble...

Estimates of the opposing forces have already been drawn up by your friendly neighborhood pundits...

His Infernal Majesty has already warned that "interloping" Venezuelan jets "will be shot down" should they "endanger" US vessels...

Can you smell what the tRump is cookin'???!!!

I can. And have been able to.

If I sound alarmist, that's because I'm sounding the alarm.

Trump represents an existential threat - a clear and present danger.

Both foreign and domestic. So much for the Fourth amendment....

The court granted a Justice Department request to put on hold a judge's order that had barred agents from stopping or detaining people without "reasonable suspicion" that they are in the country illegally, by relying on race or ethnicity, or if they speak Spanish or English with an accent, among other factors.

Might as well start calling the boys the Sicherheitsdienst at this point - unless some other totalitarian jargon suits your fancy.

It's enough to prompt one to wish a certain person hadn't turned his head on a certain day when a certain wee thing came whizzing by...

On the other hand - not to justify anything, you understand. Just this peculiar sensation that keeps recurring - somehow it seems as though this was always where the USA was going to end up.

What about TNT and C4 Etc. in mining and destruction/construction.

From google AI:

Specific TNT Replacements:
  • Bis(1,2,4-oxadiazole)bis(methylene)dinitrate (BOM):
This is a promising, melt-castable explosive with a complex molecular structure. It provides higher energy output, lower sensitivity to impact and friction, and better environmental properties than TNT. It is a lower-density molecule than TNT but achieves high performance due to its high nitrogen and oxygen content.

  • IMX-101:
This alternative was developed by BAE Systems and approved by the U.S. Army as a safer, more cost-effective, and environmentally friendly explosive. IMX-101 exceeds system tests and offers logistical advantages over TNT, with cost reductions expected as production scales up.

  • Energetic Ionic Liquids:
The Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) is investigating triazolium-based salts for melt-castable explosives. These energetic ionic liquids offer high densities, thermal stability, and potentially suitable performance for replacing TNT.

  • Trinitroxylene:
This compound has been used as a substitute for TNT in the bursting charges of high-explosive shells.

  • RDX:
Also known as Cyclotrimethylenetrinitramine, RDX is a more powerful explosive than TNT but is also more toxic.

Thanks. I was too lazy to look up this sort of info.
I figured that the substitutes were all more expensive, so the Dept. of Defense - pardon me War - was sticking with TNT for loads like "dumb" bombs (including conversion to JDAM type munitions), artillery rounds, mortar rounds, &tc. and that the more powerful explosives were reserved for specialized uses like missile warheads where what's desired is the smallest sized charge you can use with maximum "bang".

That is actually funny!

Who made that quip about Capitalists selling you the rope to hang them?
