Family spokesman Simon Halls released a statement to PEOPLE on behalf of Fisher’s daughter, Billie Lourd:

“It is with a very deep sadness that Billie Lourd confirms that her beloved mother Carrie Fisher passed away at 8:55 this morning,” reads the statement.

“She was loved by the world and she will be missed profoundly,” says Lourd. “Our entire family thanks you for your thoughts and prayers.”

Fisher was flying from London to Los Angeles on Friday, Dec. 23, when she went into cardiac arrest. Paramedics removed her from the flight and rushed her to a nearby hospital, where she was treated for a heart attack. She later died in the hospital.

I had hopes she would pull through, when she was upgraded from Critical to Stable condition yesterday... rest in peace, fair princess.

... Goddamnit 2016, enough already.

Goodnight sweet Princess...

Did she do much after Star Wars? I remember her in the first film as a rather unappealing, bluestocking-looking Princess, with a strange hairdo. And after that?..............

But indeed, unusual for an apparently healthy woman of 60 to drop dead from heart trouble. A reminder, perhaps, to all of us over 60 that we can't take life for granted.

Really???

Healthy???

Early lifestyle not play a part???????

Actor great. Not recommended as insulation from the effects of bad choices

Humpty and Poe no comments. :( :(

I confess, I'm not familiar with the phrase "bluestocking-looking" heh... but I always thought she had an air of cute determination about her:

Bluestocking is probably an English term. It originally just meant an intellectual woman but picked up connotations of a frumpy or rather puritanical demeanour - clever but not much fun, basically. Presumably that was just the character she played. I have no idea what she was like in real life.

Ah, fair enough :)

And her mother follows her...how sad.

Sometimes your soul companion is your own daughter. That's why she chose to go too I think..

2016 can fuck right off at this point... it's taken too many of our greats!

"I tell my younger friends that no matter how I go, I want it reported that I drowned in moonlight, strangled by my own bra," ----Carrie Fisher
