Is that a stick of dynamite in your pants, or are you just happy to -

Oh. It is a stick of dynamite.

I dunno, 'som. People have flake-outs and then come back. I quit once too, but every time I try to get out, it just drags me back in again. Let's hope he comes back.

"What kind of sciforums would it be
without a spurious mon-key?"

I dunno either, but I also hope he will come back.
Nah, I have to go back to class now, have a nice day, GeoffP :)

ffs :(

Although, knowing him, it could be a wind-up. Maybe. Hopefully?

The young chap looks pretty fly in his England top. I'm not usually one to condone football anything, but he does look cute. And thank god it isn't Norway. :)

He clearly has been planning to leave for some time. He's been working himself up to it.

That is not true; we have been planning on several changes for B&G together. He said he cannot afford to take chances with moderators who may put his job at risk, since he has a family to feed.

Who does he imagine might put his job at risk?

He said it himself:
spuriousmonkey is a member of SciForums and used to be the moderator of the Biology & Genetics subforum for a short while. He retired from sciforums on 13th of june 2007.

His reason is very simple. He already had some bad experiences in the past with a forum administrator contacting his workplace due to a disagreement. Sciforums always was the only place that was safe in this respect. However, a new policy adopted by the new administration abandoned the old unspoken agreement that what happens in sciforums stays in sciforums.

have a good life.

And the context:
You can't ban me forever, but nice try!

Yes, we can.

And not only ban you from Sciforums and Encyclopedia, but also from your ISP.

That's right, an abuse report with your full name and your full home address (including your mails and IPs), has been sent to AOL last night.

You should read very carefully your provider's Terms of Use, before you started with 'bringing the web down' actions.

There is clearly stated that your AOL account, IP addresses, mail and other ISP features cannot be used for spamming, harassement, vandalizing or for any other kinds of abuse.

You should learn to take responsibility for your actions.

Especially when your actions break the law.

ah ja.

I see that there is a policy change.

Well, this means goodbye for me too.

farewell.

samcdkey:

I'm not aware of the details under which his workplace may have been contacted in the past, but it seems to me that if that happened it was when Porfiry was adminstrator. The administration has changed since then.

redarmy1:

spuriousmonkey has not been trolling sciforums. He has never been banned. He has not, to my knowledge, used sock puppets to come here to cause mischief. He has not attempted to deliberately vandalise the enyclopedia (as ToR apparently did), as far as I am aware.

I'm not sure why he would be concerned that his ISP would be contacted by the admins here. He has not abused any terms of service, as far as I can see.

I think the workplace thing was on another forum. From his wiki entry:
He already had some bad experiences in the past with a forum administrator contacting his workplace due to a disagreement. Sciforums always was the only place that was safe in this respect.
