So naturally, men are going to be intimated by assertive, intelligent, and successful women. So many women feel pressured to downplay their intellectual abilities. I doubt that gendanken behaves like this in person. Assertive women are always labeled as a “bitches”. I think that she uses humor and sarcasm to fit in. There are those who lack self-esteem and are easily threatened by others, who lash out in an effort to make themselves feel more in control, when in reality, they're not. However, I don’t think gendanken fits into this category. Although, the cancer remark was a little iffy.

You did read the whole article, did you not? :) She's speaking to a lot more than what you allude to. Interesting overview, and troubling also in some of what it suggests, IMO.
