Cognitive preoccupations are appearance, material things, reputation, and belonging because social acceptance is vital to our survival.

Women had status in the hunter/gathering society but lost it during the uprise of social hierarchies in agriculture and industry. Social acceptance once gained through group-oriented survival was now impersonal. Labor, now exchanged for money, and marriage a business venture. Women could only gain power through males. Obviously, a huge emphasis was placed on a women’s appearance, as we became objects, and status symbols.

Men desire women, and women want to be desired, but we also want personal power, and not just through men. I think what gendanken is getting at is that women are now being hypocritical. They are saying one thing and doing another. They want respect, and to be valued for more than just their looks, and yet they dress slutty. Therefore, it’s unfair to place these expectations on men.

Historically, women have chosen men who were more successful than they were. So naturally, men are going to be intimated by assertive, intelligent, and successful women. So many women feel pressured to downplay their intellectual abilities. I doubt that gendanken behaves like this in person. Assertive women are always labeled as a “bitches”. I think that she uses humor and sarcasm to fit in. There are those who lack self-esteem and are easily threatened by others, who lash out in an effort to make themselves feel more in control, when in reality, they're not. However, I don’t think gendanken fits into this category. Although, the cancer remark was a little iffy. :bugeye:
