Splinter Discussion - Hypothetical Question: If Bugs Aren't Worth Fixing

Seriously, Kittamaru?

You cannot honestly believe that you answered the question of how something that I commented as "almost sounds" can be construed as "factually incorrect".

Again, my condolences, Kittamaru.

I answered the question quite simply - it is incorrect because the assessment was incorrect:
Original Post
A straightforward question arises: You are a software company that makes a web browser. After a given update, your browser is no longer capable of executing Unicode within a text-input field. Why is this not a problem that requires a solution? That is to say, why would you not fix this?

And so we wait on yet another update to see if they've gotten around to it.

There are questions about Flash layers and the rising HTML5 overkill, of course, which only begs the question of other software manufacturers: Why are you using this buggy software apparently built around a schizophrenic flow chart?

No, seriously, last year almost all of my social media went south; Twitter is about the only one that hasn't gone completely useless. But some of that is simply pushing too hard with HTML5 while the flow chart is clueless. In the case of one of the most prominent internet browsers, though, collapsing under the weight of Unicode is simply unacceptable, except for the fact that the manufacturer seems just fine with it.

But why wouldn't they want to fix this?

Your post
...hmmmm...almost sounds like something that could make an unknowing consumer believe that they "NEED TO PURCHASE" a "NEW" computer or "SERVICE"...

My Response
Service perhaps - mostly these "finally fast PC" adverts and such. The problem is the operating system itself, and the code therein - a new computer would not necessarily fix that (unless they went to a different OS)

An unknowing consumer would not likely notice the problem... and if they did, they would likely fault the website or, perhaps, the "internet", not the computer itself. This is coming from someone who has spent several years in various IT roles, from Helpdesk to PC Repair and, currently, Site IT Lead/Network Administrator/Network Engineer.

Kittamaru, awfully nice of you to try and CYA - but honestly you are going overboard.

All I did was make a comment.

The consumer evidently did NOTICE the problem...hence the Thread!!!

I have been building/programming/maintaining/servicing/repairing all types of computers since the late '70's.

I have seen many computers replaced because of minor problems - often because the owner/user called PC Helper and was told that the problem was with the COMPUTER - when it actually was not.
Do you DENY THAT THIS HAPPENS??

If you have the experience that you claim, then you know for a FACT that the corporate model is to SELL, SELL, SELL.

Personally, like Doug, I have no problems with my own Computers, simply because I practice safe computing.

I have no Idea why you have chosen to harangue me on this Forum.
I will not PRESUME or ASSUME any reasoning behind your actions - I will leave that type of behavior to you and your ilk.

Honestly, you should be ashamed of yourself - you are after all, part of the Moderation Team of this Forum - for displaying such behavior.

At any rate, there are young people reading these Forums and learning from your behavior...hence my condolences.

EDIT : Oh oh, seems like I can no longer Post in this Thread , NOW!!

EDIT #2 : HMM...Post deleted.... oddly enough though, after it was REPORTED!!!

EDIT #3 : I have no comprehension problem.
Heck, I can even tell when someone is making a 'passive-aggressive' attack.

It is obvious, dmoe, that you have no intention of comprehending why I said what I did, nor why your assessment of what was said was wrong.

Yes, occasionally people end up having computers replaced for minor issues - however, that is the exception, not the rule (and if it was a common occurrence for you, then I have to wonder what it was you were telling these "clients" of yours).

C'est la vie...

PS - given the enormous waste of time corresponding with you is, this shall be my last response on this topic. I wish you all the best

Kittamaru :

1. - You are in no position to decide what I do or do not understand.

2. - You have no right/ability to educate me.

3. - The record of what was "POSTED" is on this Forum for all to read - until such time as any site "Moderators" choose to edit it.

4. - As far as "accuse", what I stated/typed was : "It would be nice if you would choose to put words into the mouths of any other "Member" than myself. Like I said, I am not "ARGUING" anything."

5. - Kittamaru, I am "Posting" to try and be part of a discussion - not to engage in any "ARGUMENT". There is a difference between having a discussion and engaging in an argument!

6. - Kittamaru, I am NOT CONFUSED - I am NOT BEING HOSTILE - and I am NOT "MIFFED". NOR am I the "Member" that is making the "BASELESS ACCUSATIONS".

7. - Kittamaru, If you cannot handle my presence on this Forum, that is for you to deal with. I would very much appreciate it if you would not bother me with it...PLEASE???

Thank you and have a Good Day.

EDIT - and for the record : As an adult, I have the ability to maintain my composure...in any situation...in any conversation...
I don't have a pony in this race, which is to say I come to this thread and this disagreement with no particular view of either participant. Here are my observations:
1. Despite reading comprehension skills that, objectively measured , are very high, I have almost no idea what DMOE is talking about.
2. Responsibility for clarity rests primarily with the writer, not the reader.
3, While I would not have made Kittamaru's interpretation of DMOE's posts, given the ambiguity of those posts the error is not surprising.
4. DMOE's responses are provocative and extreme
5. If he is not looking to start a fight he should seek out an anger management counselor, or perhaps revisit the lessons on politeness he had from his parents.

Kittamaru:

Don't feed the troll.

Yeah... I forgot :(

But he IS trying to start a fight. Practically all the time.

Personally speaking, I'd ban the bugger, but then I'm less tolerant than this site is, for tiresome behaviour.

Sure. That's the name of the game in Silicon Valley.

The hardware they sell is increasingly a commodity. It doesn't differ a whole lot between manufacturers or from year to year.

And the software they sold last year already worked, or it wouldn't have sold.

So how can they keep people buying their newest products?

By piling on new 'features' that nobody needs. And then by convincing online businesses and websites that they will be perceived as outmoded if they don't fully exploit all the new features. So everyone has to have the newest and most powerful browser, along with a hardware device capable or running it, and high-speed internet capable of handling all the required bandwidth.

It's 'planned obsolescence', it isn't anything new. Unfortunately, it makes IT unnecessarily bloated, complex and expensive.

I've more or less opted out. I'm happily using old and outmoded technology. It's free, it still works and it does everything that I want it to do, so why not?

Meh, I must ignore your juvenile antics, exchemist. ...although, not "all the time", or even all of the time.

Personally speaking, I'd ban the bugger, but then I'm less tolerant than this site is, for tiresome behaviour.
And I must ignore, once again, your puerile poke at inciting a fight.

Thank you, Yazata, for actually reading and understanding what I Posted.

It gets tiring to have so many Tro...er, Members constantly trying to...do...whatever it is that Kittamaru and those of his ilk do on this Forum.

I am not sure if it because of apathy or naïveté or true ignorance on some level, but too many Americans(and other Nationalities - if this Forum is any indication!) have no idea what actually is going on around them.
...brainwashed consumers convinced that they NEED !

You are being a bit hard on everyone there dmoe. Most do assuredly know what's going on.
The following is a prime example, obviously based on indisputable evidence of relevant carryings on over the last couple of years.

I am not sure if it because of :
1. - apathy : the consumer could not care less ?

or 2. - naïveté : the consumer refusing to believe that a 'corporation' could or would consider the consumer as nothing more than a source of income ?

or 3. - true ignorance on some level : the consumer honestly failing to realize that the prime impetus of the 'corporation' is, first and foremost, maintaining that source of income ?

...but, for whatever reason, too many Americans(and other Nationalities - if this Forum is sany indication!) have no idea what actually is going on around them.

...like I said, previously, Yazata : It gets tiring...

Only issue is that he lays low just long enough for his points to expire... it's been proposed that points should last longer based on a persons record, but there is no built-in system of record keeping for such a thing... however, there is discussion about it going on, so there is that hope. One day, one glorious lovely day, we will be able to remove the trolls and have a forum where those who wish legitimate discussion can do so in peace.

Is that what he does? Strange individual. I had a fairly sensible exchange with him on another thread, a few days ago. Perhaps he was waiting for some infraction points to expire.
