Something broken when using MS Edge browser

I am experiencing a problem using Microsoft Edge browser with sciforums.

None of the clickable button controls in the post editing box are working for me using Edge. Everything is greyed out. The "Post reply" button is still working, mostly, but I ran into a problem with posting a reply in one thread, where it refused to post for some inexplicable reason.

I tried a different browser and everything works as normal with the other browser.

Is anybody else using Edge and having similar problems? Could be that Edge updated and broke something in the sciforums web interface.

You can stop right there. No need to further qualify. :p

Check the Toggle BB code button, toolbar, near right. Looks like this: [ ]
BBCode off:

BBCode on:

Toggle BB code is equivalent to the old WordPerfect "Reveal Codes". It very useful for disentangling mangled open/closed or nested quotes. It disables all text formatting controls and displays them instead inline with the text.

I'm trying Edge purely to see what happens on it. Checked to see if it's the up-to-date version for Edge, and it is (according to "About").

Both the "[ ]" and "Preview" buttons work, even in the "grey state". After toggling, most buttons seem to work -- except for Bold and Italics. Normally, I add those tags myself, so I wouldn't notice that lack of functionality.

EDIT: Using Opera browser now, and it seems to be the same as Edge.

I'm familiar with the "Toggle BB code" button. However, that button is not even visible on the toolbar in the current state of my Edge browser. On the right-hand side, I only see that "back" curved arrow and the "three dots" button, next to "Preview". The arrow and the three dots button are both greyed out and don't do anything, along with all of the buttons on the left-hand side of the tool bar.

As I said, this is only a problem in Edge, as far as I'm aware, and it's only been like this for the past day or so.

Sounds like a radically different situation, then, from what I experienced with Edge. Only two buttons don't work on the latter, and they're also a fail on the other two browsers.

Are those three dots horizontal or vertical?

On Firefox (Linux), I see what Dave↑ posted in the second picture.

Is there nothing under the three-dot button next to Preview?

If this problem is limited to MS Edge, and started recently, then at first glance it sounds like an issue with the width of window and monitor screen, which sounds like a browser issue that should correct in the next update.

If, however, Microsoft is simply changing the way Edge displays, and this isn't a particular error to be repaired, then it might be that XenForo, the forum software, needs an update in order to reconcile the difference.

Beyond that, the possibilities become myriad.

But the reason I ask is that it sounds like "the window is too narrow to hold the entire menu", but if Full-Screen doesn't solve the problem, then the browser window being too narrow, as such, is a more complicated problem.

(Anecdote: There was a time when The Hill, a D.C. newspaper covering politics and government, switched to a strange format where I had to fullscreen in order to read the site. And it's true, I thought maybe this was the new way, as if they were trying to tailor their display to notepads. And maybe they were. But it only lasted a handful of days; whatever was going on, what I experienced was some sort of technical issue they eventually resolved. As I'm not a programmer, I can't tell you exactly what went awry, but it could have been as simple as an unclosed tag, or failing to rewrite every last iteration of certain values.)

Update: So, today, the "Toggle BB code" button mysteriously reappeared, although it was greyed out along with the rest of the controls. But clicking it restored all the controls.

Bizarre. Fingers crossed that this "solution" sticks.

BTW, there is no issue with the width of my browser windows.

Anyway, thanks to all who commented and tried to help.

Yes. Strangely, even when enabled, the Toggle BB Code button is greyed out.

(That's probably just an laziness on the part of the developer. allToobarButtons.enabled(false). )
