Something about intellectual honesty and ethics...

I want to challenge you personally to a formal debate about intellectual honesty and ethics. You had the last word over your decision to move my last debate request and you chose to open it up for other member contributions. The insincerity of the decision seemed pointless and it lacked intellectual honesty by my estimation. I suggest we go with the standard rules of engagement this round. My proposal, followed with 4 posts each. The last of the four post being closing arguments and two days tops for the the counter arguments between each posts.

I'll write up my proposal after you accept.

Thank you

Just ignore him James. There has been plenty of bad feeling and mod baiting over the past while without this bozo stirring things up.

It is nice to talk about science in first place.

I enjoy the sciences, too. Intellectual honesty and ethics certainly apply to the sciences, also. Let me know when you accept the debate challenge, James. I'll start writing the proposal up after accepted. Until then, I'll anticipate an amicable discourse to be on the agenda.

Okay. Please give me your proposed topic statement.

For example: "That moderators of sciforums have no intellectual honesty or ethics" or "Moderator decisions on sciforums are pointless and lack intellectual honesty" or whatever.

Then tell me what side of the debate you propose that you will argue: the affirmative or negative.

You can put those comments in the Site Feedback subforum or elsewhere. The Formal Debates forum is for formal debates.

As in, our published Standard Rules, set out in the Formal Debates subforum?

I will not be agreeing to debate you on a random topic of your choosing. I will decide whether to accept or reject your invitation to debate you after you propose a specific topic.

That sounds like a different debate.
Let me know when you accept the debate challenge, James.
I'll wait for your proposed topic statement.

I rate the chances of this guy being able to hold it together long enough to both write a debate statement, and conduct the subsequent debate coherently, at close to nil.

I'll write it up and post it in formal as a proposal. Again, the theme will be intellectual honesty and ethics, and how these apply to the subject itself.

By the way, I chose you for obvious reasons. The reason my last debate proposal was moved to another board is, I apparently failed to call anyone (like you) out, specifically.

Rules are as follows:

An opening statement (proposal) followed by 4 posts each, the last post being our closing arguments. No more than two days between posts, and of course, peer review and decision after completion.

Thank you

Time will tell. I did manage to successfully write up my proposal and opening statement, but isn't that the easy part. The difficulty, as you stated above, will be in my ability to continue coherently as the debate moves forward. The close to nil chances are against me, after all. And, while I am in that type of corner, holding a position that most wouldn't wish pick up to save their lives, I do not anticipate the discourse to follow as one likely to be uneventful or unproductive. Unless, of course, I am denied again the same rights granted to everyone else. I will, however, submit and confess (as a man of faith) that my previous attempt was somewhat clumsy and that I failed to choose anyone specific to "lock horns" with for the event.

Okay. So this current thread is not a Proposal thread for a formal debate. It is, instead, a meta-discussion about a separate Proposal thread that you have now posted.

In that case, I will now move this thread to "Free Thoughts".
