Socialism or Capitalism?

We were all born obligated to pay the debt of our parents. Our children will be obligated to pay our debts. Their children will pay the debt of their parents. Seems pretty equitable, and has been working for ~150 years or so.

There is, of course, great value in not making that debt too large - and indeed keeping it about the same over time in terms of real dollars vs. GDP.

I still remember a nice surplus, but you are correct in that our kids inherit our efforts, or lack of. The honest effort and reward system we grew up under is just. The question is is it deserved by and for our kids? I'd suggest yes and no, even though it tends to work that way ... Still ... After over 150 years of unsatisfied life realities and debt obligations that did not belong to us ... The kids who had to pay.

Yep. In addition, republicans tend to spend more while lowering taxes. That is a recipe for disaster. Democrats love to spend as well - but at least they are a bit more responsible about it, and raise taxes to match.

I voted democrat in the 90's and remained a democrat for 30 years or close to it until I made the switch I'm certainly not opposed to democrats, nor am I opposed to republicans. I'm opposed to the grid lock mindset and failure to cooperate for our kids.
