Should members of sciforums be required to post in English?

What should be done with members who post almost exclusively in a language other than English?

  • Nothing. Members may post in whatever language they like; readers can translate it.

The Royal Navy is known for the odd curse word.
Possibly this can be said of navies everywhere.

Hard to picture Olga contemplating her naval options. Easier if I think of her as sixteen stone Boris trucking cabbages from Minsk to Vladivostok. Ok, yes, Dartmouth it is.

Please keep your language civil. Avoid gratuitous sexual references.
Don't cum in your pants.

Yes, she is very articulate in English, much better than the glib Russian she was spouting.

It's almost as if English is her native tongue and the Russian was coming from a translator app.

Hmmm...
I was bullied by your fucking English tutors when l was a kid. I hate this language.

Come on - it's the garbage bin of languages. We got everything from Latin to LoL-speak in this dumpster.
we'll take any word you got and plug it right in.

Russian is a million times more beautiful and richer.
I don't know...

As much fun as it is to say stuff like "Krasnogorsk", or "Semipalatinsk", you've got all those positively surreal characters left over from ancient Greek in there. Seems like it works for you, but at times one can't help wondering "what the heck am I looking at, here?"

I fear Olga has gone full palatinsk on us.

I have found it helpful that my French teacher in high school offered an extra credit thing for anyone who wanted to learn a smattering of a third language - so I learned to read Cyrillic and a few phrases in Russian. I think the only reason I can still read Cyrillic is this happened around age seventeen when the brain is still flexible and sponge-like soaking up everything.

sunuvagun. Olga is more fluent in English than in Russian.
Haha! A fluent merchant marine, from some of the posts I've seen.

Did your tutors require that every English sentence must include the letters f & c?
Along with u & k?
Was this some kind of rule that they enforced? They would be so proud!

Interesting that you are even familiar with wholly meaningless terms like "richer" (when used in this sense). I mean, I am sure that you're aware that describing a language as "rich" really ain't saying shit, yes?

Like WoW, Olga went to the School of Hard Knocks.
