Desperate Russian farmers have called on President Vladimir Putin to help tackle invading antelopes that are wreaking havoc
on a vital food-supplying region's crops and water supply.
Already grappling with his attempted invasion of Ukraine, the President now faces a seemingly unstoppable 'invader' in his own home land.
Some one million saiga antelopes, recognized by their distinctive, bulbous noses, are said to now be roaming the southwestern province of Saratov after crossed into Russia from neighboring Kazakhstan, farmers claim.
Saratov, situated along the Volga River and ranking as Russia's sixth-largest grain-producing region, has been severely impacted by the Eurasian herbivores, who have feasted on the area's annual harvest of about four million metric tons, which accounts for 3.5 per cent of Russia's total grain harvest.
