Maybe I'll give this feller a shot. What's the first book in the series? Can anyone give me a low down as to what it's about (in their own words--don't provide a link ya lazy bastards!)?
The term "The Wheel of Time" derives from the cosmogony which states that the universe repeats itself roughly every 30,000 years. By repeat, I mean each "age" (about 10 of 3000 years each) has roughly the same theme. But do not be mislead -- the events in the series take place over no more than a few years -- the cosmogony is revealed to us largely through narration.
One central idea is there is a "power" (in slightly different male and female flavors) that the major characters can tap into at will, but not with equal ease or benefit. The land is ruled by a sisterhood of women who have the power. The many nations are kept, to a certain degree, under control by the sisterhood, which has ambassadors at each court. The sisters have for centuries rooted out any man with a suggestion of the power, for use of the male power leads to insanity.
The series opens with a sleepy, remote village being visited by mysterious strangers. They gather some of the youngsters and prepare to take them off to the sisterhood. As is usual with fantasy, these youngsters all turn out to have powerful abilities which will come into play as the age is about to end.
Try it but be warned it may be a bit slow for the first 100 pages or so. But you've got 6400 good ones after that!
Thanks, yes yes I will give the series a shot when I find time. Have you or anyone else read any of Terry Goodkind's stuff? I posted a thread but it has yielded no replies...*hint hint*
