I guess this would fall under a psychology issue [medical treatment] and outrage, though it intersects with other categories, too, like politics and health.

RFK Jr. plans to curb antidepressants, which he falsely compares to heroin
https://arstechnica.com/health/2026...ressants-which-he-falsely-compares-to-heroin/

EXCERPTS: In a brief appearance at a Make America Healthy Again Institute event Monday, anti-vaccine Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. announced new federal initiatives to curb prescribing of antidepressants, which he has long attacked with false and dangerous claims. Mental health experts have previously condemned his rhetoric and are already pushing back on his new efforts.

[...] The topics closely echo Kennedy’s claims. Among his many dangerous, evidence-free statements, he has suggested that too many people, including children, are put on SSRIs and that they make people violent. He has even suggested that they are the cause of mass shootings, including school shootings. In a podcast last year, he made the heinous claim that “every Black kid is now just standard put on Adderall, SSRIs, benzos, which are known to induce violence.” His suggested solution is for black children to be “reparented” and work on farms.

Kennedy has also repeatedly made the false claim that quitting antidepressants is extremely difficult, harder to quit than heroin. But experts have debunked the claim-there is no research to back the suggestion... (MORE - details)

So, separating young Blacks from their families and then forcing them into field labor. Gosh, why does that sound so familiar? There was some term for that...give a minute, it'll come to me. Began with an S, I think.

RFKJ has entered the zone of self-parody.

He became messed up after his father's death, still messed up. Zero qualifications in physiology/ medicine yet will not STFU about everything from HIV, Autism, vaccines and now heroin. Granted he was a drug addict previously but that still does not make him an expert.

The worrying thing is how far the Overton window has moved. A decade ago someone might ruin his career with a remark like that. Now, it causes barely a murmur.

He's like someone who treats as gospel what his gym-bros tell him, 'cos, you know, they're pumped, and clearly have no issues. Either that or "well, I did okay without anti-depressants so therefore noone needs them!" mentality.

If you have a mental illness like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, or depression you should have access to the best medication. Not having medication available and having the disorder is much worse for everyone than having something that helps but maybe is not perfect yet. With advances in AI and quantum computing the next generation of drugs for mental illness maybe be second to none.

Are you a robot?

Hi, I am not a robot. I use AI for research, but I put the response in my own words, sorry.
When someone joins a discussion, they respond to what others say. They don't just drop in a set of flat obvious statements (like people with mental illness "should have access to the best medication") that concludes with breathless praise for AI. A discussion forum exists for people to speak in their own words about their own opinions, formed by their own process of thought. Such forums exist as an essential countering force to the cognitive surrender of just copy-pasting AI output.

Ah yes, but who or what are you? You do not post like a human being. You post like a robot, a robot who has not read the thread discussion and has just shoved in some bland statements, plus a gratuitous and uninformative plug for AI.

If you are nevertheless a human being, it might go some way to allay our suspicions if you could tell us something about your background, field(s) of scientific knowledge and/or experience.

And how do they relate to RFK Jr.'s assertions about antidepressants and his attempts to change government policies regarding such medications? You say it is better to have helpful meds that are imperfect than no meds at all. Sure. So you're rejecting Kennedy's claims that they cause severe addiction and violent behavior? What was your reaction to his comments about black children and his idea of "reparenting" and making them do farm labor? How do Kennedy's comments generally strike you? Tell us a little about what triggered your response.

My name is Matthew Meyer. I live in the USA. I enjoy doing creative writing. I also enjoy science. I have a high school diploma. I did some research and I discovered that antidepressants are not considered addictive, they do not cause cravings, and in rare cases SSRIs can increase aggressive or violent behavior, but if managed correctly these issues may be avoidable. I think reparenting children and making them do farm labor will probably just cause the children exhaustion from physical labor and stress and sadness from being separated from their families. I believe in life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, forcing anybody to do anything seem to be a violation of American freedom.

BTW, here's the applicable RFK Jr segment about the "rehabilitation farms". Voluntary? Free? Misplaced utopian dream from the hippe commune days of the New Left era (60s. 70s)? Really more Junior's youthful time period than his uncle and dad.

The one hour, 28 minute, 47 seconds mark

VIDEO EXCERPT: American Indians ... and then the second highest were American Blacks dying [...] They don't have good food ... the processed food is what is poisoning us, and the pharmaceuticals. So you know my solution to that is I'm going to get NIH to stop making drugs to treat chronic disease, and and instruct them on how spend their their budget.

[...] My uncle started the Peace Corps ... my program is going to be Wellness Farms, rehabilitation facilities that I'm going to start in rural areas all over the country. Where any American can go for free, any of them who is dependent on drugs -- either illegal drugs or psychiatric drugs.

Which every Black kid is now just standardly put on. Adderall and benzos, which are known to induce violence. Those kids are going to have a chance to go somewhere and get reparented to live in a community where there'll be no cell phones, no screens, you'll actually have to talk to people and the BAS is the model for this.

It's a community that I had direct contact with, because a family member of mine went there. It's called San Padanos (???) in Italy. Community at a 10,000 acre farm. They grow organic food, the kids can eat very good food for the first time in their lives.

They have a bakery the kids can work in, a furniture factory, an apparel factory, and a wallpaper factory. They learn a skill or a trade, and they can stay as long as they want for free. ... Job-wise ... They're taught how to be responsible, how to tell the truth, how to show up on time, how to be reliable, how to be a caring member of a community, and to reconnect.

So many of our kids today are alienated, they're dispossessed, they have no hope for their future, and the suicide rates are astronomical. Black kids have the highest rate of suicide...

I am Pinball, that is not my real name. I like jazz and sometimes Rock and beat music like the Germans have.
I am not a bot because I was born in Manchester, that's in the North of England where there is some important history.
Would you like to.discuss?

I am forced by law to pay income taxes. Is that a violation of my freedom?

What about having to obey the speed limit in say, an elementary school zone?
