Happy Ramadan!!!

Thanks Geoff, do you have community iftaars anywhere around where you live?'

Its one of the pluses of living near Muslims you only have to cook once in 30 days in Ramadan!

Sappy pictures to share the experience!!!

Where is the moon?

I was considering joining in, but how to explain to my grandmother that I couldn't eat her homemade meatballs earlier today?

What type of food is that and what is it for? It looks like the same thing in every plate, so I'm assuming that it's for something religious or ceremonial. Or it could just be a restaurant.

Its a community iftaar, ie breakfast. It usually consists of dates, fruit, and some high calorie snacks 0 this is followed after prayer and some relaxation/socialising, by dinner. During Ramadan, it is convention to send breakfast [which is eaten at sun down, when we break fast] to those who are fasting, often its just easier to call as many people as you know to sit down and eat with you. You can call anyone to share iftaar, family, friends, neighbours even strangers. Most often, masjids [mosques] make good locations for sharing iftaar with people you don't know. All you do is take the food and the mosque will usually arrange it for you.

Not religious by any means here but i work with many Muslims and always invited to share in the munchies when they get broken out.

A big massive thumbs up to thei nice home cooking...yummers!

:D

Hehe, I almost made it today, if it hadn't been for that woman in the supermarket, who inisisted I should taste a piece of bread, but it was very small, like three square centimeters. I just took it without thinking, which is strange it itself, because usually I never accept food from the supermarket taste-people, and then remembered when I already had it in my mouth.

I especially wish that there were more Muslims where I live, this time of year.

Ramadan Kareem!

You posted some excellent pictures SAM. I like them. And if i were a Muslim, I would be known as a SuratKar, being that I was born in Surat, native to Gujarat. Modhera Sun Temple is my personal Mecca located in Sitapur. I am very saddened that it has been victimized by historical terrorism as much as 70% of its carvings have been defaced and the only one to be famous for being intact is Sri Ganapati. I dont mean to derail your thread talking about my history. Ramazan Mubarak!

-kar is not a Muslim suffix, its a Marathi one. Since you are Gujarati, you would add vala or walla. [ie Suratwalla]

I'm 50% Gujarati, not from Surat, from Jamnagar.

Pan maari Gujarati saari nathi, etle ke ghar maa koi vadhare bolto nathi

Thats probably very pathetic, I understand better than I speak. :p

Here's another Ramadan pic - time to remember to break out the moolah! For zakat, new clothes and hadiya

Oh I see...I meant to say that too, in Marathi language

My surname Is 'wala' actually 'Dadar' referring to people of the stairs. Jamnnager is good place. I was there in early times, actually when I was born...

Awesome coincidence. I've only been there on visits and not since a very long time.
