You can access the forum by using Opera Browser and activating its VPN. Then bypass its security block by clicking "help me understand". And after that, click the faint link at the bottom that says "take me there, anyway" or "proceed (unsafe)".

Purely speculation, but lack of HTTPS could be the site's problem.

Yep, I just encountered a security warning and had to twist Chrome's little cyber-arm to access SFC. It's a lapsed SSL certificate. Hey, James R , pass it along to owner?

Apparently this is going to last a surprisingly long time.

One can get a DN validating SSL certificate for free, iirc. A simple fix, if James noticed my message to him and can reach the site owner. Our more IT savvy folk will get on, no problem, but some are probably blocked.

The Whois search shows anonymous ownership through that place in Reykjavik (it's also used by black marketeers and porn sites, last I heard). Owner might want to consider something better.

Heh. I guess an expired certificate is often the reason. Close to an annual tradition, like February of last year.

Most, if not all, browsers will allow access to SF if one clicks "accepting the risk" (as if this were a site of financial transactions and a Casablanca of intrigue constantly monitored by security agencies of governments, etc). There are both visible and invisible members appearing intermittently on the Who's Online component. So people signed in temporarily but not posting.

I'm guessing whatever the issue it's been resolved, as I'm here without going through all that faff. I use Mozilla, and the site was considered unsafe, so I steered clear. But now no such warning, so I assume all well?

Gotta smile at this... explaining to people how to access the forum, but which they need to access the forum to read? ;)

Still a bit buggy. The security block is intermittently returning for some browsers. Not constant, necessarily, but now and then.

Well, a few will likewise take the risk (break on through) and potentially convey the info to other castaways at a different forum (albeit The Vat already knew what the problem was). If nothing else, it's part of an obligatory "Kilroy was here". ;)
