A few days ago, I finally got to watch "Planet of the Apes."

I never go to see the new movies anymore and I don't rent videos, so I am left waiting to see a decent flick after it comes out on cable (HBO).

It's funny because a few days before I had gotten really aggravated at all of the crap that is on television these days. I was beginning to wonder if all of the really good movies had already been made & if there would be no more.

Enter Planet of the Apes

Tim Burton is a freak, but he makes awesome movies. I didn't think it possible that the original could be improved upon, but that "crazy" Burton guy did it!

No doubt about it, Planet Of The Apes is one of the greats!

Tim Burton is going to go down as one of, perhaps the greatest director in Sci-fi history!:)

saw it at the cinema, everything apart from the plot and main character were a bit improvement on the original. Sadly i think those two elements are very important so I was over-all unimpressed. Who wrote the new version? cos it was briliantly directed, produced etc and all the effect and apes and scenery rocked but it was severely lacking in the plot department.

The bets bit of the film was 'get your hand off me you damn dirty human' I was pissing myself.

I thought it was terrible. There was no atmosphere. No real character interaction. Hardly a plot at all. Poor acting. Poor directing. Poor cinematography. When the apes jumped around they didn't look real. I really hated this movie.

I thoguht there was character interaction, though granted, the romance was terrible, although maybe TB only did it cos he thought that was what the audience wanted? (Expected, definately) I thought the acting was fine, and I also saw a docu, which told how the extras that acted the apes spend ages training to move like apes. Then again I'm not much of an expert on apes, so I wouldn't know if the training paid off, and if it was realistic or not. I really liked the movie ('cept the ending just makes you cringe), though that may have had something to do with a crush I had at the time on Mark Wahlberg. :p Though seriously, I like movies that deal with a different outlook on life, different circumstances, than those we take for granted in this world, and I thought this movie kinda got there (though admittedly, it was totally unoriginal, but haven't watched the poriginal POTA, so can't comment there) :p

I saw a peice of the newest one. I have yet to see it in its entirety. I want to pick it up, go home, and crank the surround sound up!

ok, so you people don't like.....

Then please tell me about some new (sci) movies (shows) that you think are quite good, please.

If any of you say Lexx/Farscape, any Jim Carey movies, Scoobie Doo, or Spider Man, then don't go any further:rolleyes:

Xmen wasn't too bad. They could have been more..dramatic..more action..

ps.. don't even mention that little Van Diesal prick...:D :D :D Pitch black, ect...:D Geez! I saw a few of his recent interviews..what a wimp ! ! ! !

FORBIDDEN PLANET......Leslie Nielson, Earl Holliman, ect... Commander JJ ADAMS.

I am serious, and don't call me Shirly:mad:

Ok surly...

I thought X-men to bland. Concept was good but somehow it left a lot to be desired. The comic book to celluloid just didn't seem to jell for me. I thought the effects were good, maybe to good, and stole from the story line and characters as I found myself waiting for the next one instead of what was going on in the movie.

Myself I loved The Mummy. Outstanding special effects, corny characters, set against a magnificent background of ancient Egypt. In spite of the Goody Two shoes characters it seemed to work.

I do wish they would do a remake of Forbidden Planet. Now that special effects have reached the believable stage I think that a lot could be done with the movie. A closer rendition to the original novel would be a novel idea!

I found Pitch Black a morbid sort of movie. Not a very attractive world or scenerio.

Who was the girl in the new Planet of the Apes? Man, she totally bit. AND I didn't think she was even that attractive. She was so blocky.

Pitch Black was pretty worthless. I remember the ending being really ridiculous.

Saw it again last night.

Estella Warren irks me. Or at least her lips do, they're way too big.

Still think it's generally a good film. :)

I agree with this. But what's funny is, I have no issue with Angelina Jolie looks wise.
